I visited Melrose Cafe in March with the intention of just popping in for a coffee, but the cheese scone caught my eye, and then it changed my life. It was crisp on the outside but buttery and fluffy on the inside, and substantial enough to last me through lunch. My long black was delicious as well, made with locally... More

Such a lovely Café. Set up and atmosphere is amazing an elegant. High tea was so good, lots to choose from and full of flavour. Drinks were also delightful and the staff were friendly and efficient. I've also been here for a lunch and that too was also really good. Highly recommend.

This is a charming Victorian house, well preserved and surrounded by gardens. The food and service were excellent and reasonably priced. We had lunch. My friend is a vegetarian and the adapted a dish on the menu to suit her. I had gravalax that melted in my mouth along with other items on the plate. All in all a memorable... More

Arrived early, just open and we got great service and a huge cooked breakfast. It was delicious and the coffee lovely. Mind you we have never had a bad experience here, the new team are doing very well. The few changes are very positive, we will be back soon.

Had breakfast at Melrose - the building is beautiful, a real colonial mansion feel and set in lovely grounds. We had a nice table on the veranda overlooking the gardens and our waitress was polite and friendly - the only downside was the actual meal which was a bit average- my bacon was overcooked and the egg and toast a... Loved the old homestead and the gardens, the food was beautiful. Unfortunately the service was very slow due to a couple of waitresses in training... not a good idea on a busy Sunday. We went for brunch, the menu is lovely but the cabinet food was sparse and stale, very obviously yesterdays food. In need of better management.

Ordered a Moccachino. I don't think they've ever made one before. Absolutely terrible. The other two members of our party said their coffees were watery and tasteless.

Decided to meet a friend here for a late lunch while visiting Nelson. We made the walk up from the main street ( it's two blocks past the church) in the hot sun, but it was definitely worth the effort! The house and gardens are lovely, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the food was delicious. All in all,... More

We called for a morning coffee. The greeting from staff was very welcoming. Fresh cheese scones on the counter but no date scones, they were just going in the oven I was advised. Oh well, cheese will do. We got our coffee and waited and waited for the scone. Not one but two arrived, one of each, the date scone,... More

If you want a unique experience, in a delightful historic house, then this is the place for you. Not only has Melrose House been substantially renovated, but the space for the cafe has been lovingly enhanced and it is a great environment for tea and cakes, or a good blast of coffee if you prefer. Then of course there is... More
