Lovely host (who didn't know her cafe was on Tripadvisor), superb chicken and mushroom pie with a great coffee. Highly recommend.

After reading these many positive reviews we decided to forgo buying lunch in Rotorua and instead buy it out at this Murupara cafe, en route to Whirinaki state forest. Unfortunately the cafe was closed; hti is late on a Saturday morning. So our only other options for food were fried chicken at the local dairy, or buy pies and other... More

Stopping at the Dipherent Café is like paying a visit to a friend. We had a great stovetop espresso coffee. The kids were entertained cracking and eating hazel nuts and walnuts. We were given lots of tips for family things to do on our next visit to the area. We'll stop here again for sure.

We've spent quite a lot of time recently in rural New Zealand. Murupara is well down the road from Rotorua to Wairoa, through Lake Waikaremoana (beyond Murupara the road is gravel for nearly 100km). It's a small, rural town that has fallen on hard times, like many others in our country, and has a poor reputation following gang incidents. In... More

This is one of the few places you just want to hang around all day. Genuine atmosphere fantastic home made cakes and Christine is the best tourist guide we met so far!

Gob Smacked ...... No menu. You walk in and ask "what's for lunch?" An amazing atmosphere where you are treated like the only customer. Toasties made with Rowena bread, melted cheese and tender ham were on the menu today. Not too be missed. I ordered a lemongrass tea and was then escorted to the herb garden to cut it fresh.... More

We arrived there after a long way from Wairoa through Lake Waikaremoana (many kms of unsealed and winding road) and enjoyed the fresh food and the sympathy of (sorry, we don't know the name) the lovely lady chef in charge of the Cafe'/Restaurant. It was really an absolute refreshing stay. Helen&Marco

It was great to stumble across this place - it was like walking into kitchen and the hostess made you feel welcome and looked after. What a pleasant, unique experience - you feel trully looked after !
