Sometimes the unexpected confronts you and comes as a shock. This restaurant was one of those times. We walked into the pub from the usual country style street exterior, through the bar area and then were suddenly surprised by the sight of pure white linen with silver cutlery in a room that transported me back to many years ago in... We decided to treat ourselves and go to 221 at The Royal Oak as i was having surgery the next day. We were greeted and seated. Waitress gave us menus and took our drink order as well as giving us water. The meals were amazing. My boyfriend had the oysters as an entree and they were fresh and done well... More

We decided on the set menu for $65 for three courses. It was all beautiful. Scallops, then Lamb and Semifreddo with Caramelised Fig. We rolled out the door. Definitely a gem in the rough!

Food was very good, pity the service wasn't up to the same standard or even anywhere close. After placing our food order took at least 15 minutes before we could lasso someone to place a drinks order. In the meantime had to get up to get a jug to refill our water glasses. Same when it came to ordering coffee... More

Tonight 221 was well below their usual high standards, we ordered two meals, the lamb dish and a risotto, The lamb was well cooked however rather bland, the risotto on the other hand was poorly presented extremely oily and virtually inedible. A plus was the professional and courteous service by the wait staff

Exceptional food. We decided on the 3 course set menu for $65 a head. Raw fish taste tempter was delicious as were the scallops and pork belly starter. Lamb main cooked to perfection and cheese platter divine. I was amazed this place wasn't packed to the rafters. It really is great food at a reasonable price. Will be back!
