Our wedding was scheduled for May 17 2020 and after weeks and weeks of terrible news due to the pandemic, Ray lent us a generous and helping hand and offered us to use the beautiful backyard and patio at the Gates for our small and initiate wedding ceremony and reception. If it wasn't for him, our dream wedding wouldn't have come true. Ray was a pleasure to deal with, always friendly and kind, and he continued to go above and beyond to exceed our needs. Since he has hosted many weddings before, he was really helpful in suggesting cute little ideas that would make our wedding even more special than what we would have planned ourselves (for example, suggesting that we light off a few Chinese lanterns for memorable photos). Him and his staff offered the highest degree of customer service that I have ever experienced. Our guests won't stop ranting about how amazing the food was, and how beautiful the space was. We are forever grateful!! We can't wait to come back for our all future wedding anniversaries and special occasions. Thanks for everything Ray!!

We visited The Gates on December 18 to find that the power was out in Headingley. We were cheerfully greeted and the parameters of our dinner carefully outlined. We dined by candlelight at a table graciously pulled to the fireside for guaranteed warmth, and had a delightful meal of scallops and prawns with their delicious signature salad. Talk about 'Got lemons . . . make lemonade!' An excellent evening all around!

We had an intimate wedding reception here and I truly recommend them! It was easy coordinating with Laura. She responded to our emails quickly, and she is so knowledgeable with wedding details, you could tell she is experienced! We had some kids who were overlooked by their parents and were going out of our venue and were entering into the lounge, and Laura is so polite to remind us about it. Very nice and approachable!
We arrived to stay in the bridal room that we rented and they served us coffee and water. Their property alone is already so beautiful that we didn’t have to put up a lot of decorations. The bride and groom were also able to have their wedding pictorials around the property! We didn’t have to go to another park to do that, whereas in other hotels, they don’t have that kind of property.
What I liked best is that they have a menu with options for the main course for our guests. It wasn’t the traditional menu like in other hotels where you can only choose a uniform course for all of the guests like a chicken cordon bleu. I’ve coordinated wedding before and so this is what I loved about The Gates! We had options from salmon, to chicken, to steak, and vegetarian! They served the food in a timely manner. They served them all together so it wasn’t awkward that one table had their food while another haven’t. Service was topnotch!
Also shoutout to a guy that we weren’t able to get his name, I think he might be the manager. We noticed that he was paying attention to us while we were setting up the decors. He came and asked us what we needed, and immediately helped us out. We had a guitar and live singer last minute, and he came help set up the equipment for us!
Thank you The Gates of a non-stressful wedding. We will surely recommend you to our community. We will come back for other weddings and occasions in our family!

My first time here, the food was just ok. I could have made a better meal at home for $150. The service was good and the surroundings was beautiful.
Don’t think I would return here to eat. I had the chicken and my partner had the rack of lamb, neither was worth the price, $35 and $48, salad was an addition $8 each.

First time at The Gates for our anniversary dinner and we were excited to experience this "fine dining" restaurant.
Serving staff: The hostess was inappropriately dressed and could not set a table without her backside showing. Our server must have been trained at Salisbury House or the Humptys truck stop. She was dropping cutlery, reaching across our faces with food and made no mention of our special day (it was noted on the reservation)or to offer other drinks if they had run out (no Guinness). The best server was the water girl. Very polite and knew the correct way to serve.
Food: Calamari portion was good but over sauced with sweet chili so everything was soggy and the breading was falling off. Mushroom soup portion was an insult... barely a cup and over seasoned. Bread was good but butter was so salty. Pasta portion was good but nothing special. The "special" rack of lamb was served ice cold as were the vegetables. This was addressed and resolved with a serving of the fattiest and over seasoned five pieces of lamb I have ever been served and after eating what little meat there was on the bones, I stopped eating.
At this point the server knew we weren't happy and said there was cake coming (we still were not acknowledged for the anniversary). I stated we were ready to leave. To be fair, the restaurant manager tried to address our concerns but her kitchen team clearly let her down on this day. We were comped generously for some of the items which was appreciated but not expected. In and out for an anniversary dinner in an hour should be a good assessment of this "fine dining" experience.

I have dined at The Gates several times over the past year and have NOT been disappointed. I enjoy the beautiful setting for those special occasions. There is a plenty of parking available as well.
I have dined on the main floor, on the second floor, with smaller groups of 5 or six or larger groups of 12-15. The pacing of the meal is important to allow for conversation to flow and The Gates' servers provide that. We are able to linger over our meal for a few hours, to enjoy the food and the company.
No one in my groups has ever uttered an untoward comment about the food. The soups, the salads, entrees, desserts, are all delicious and unique in their presentation.

The Gates on Roblin offered a delicious buffet brunch with excellent service
My favourite would be the wild mushroom soup warm and earthy perfectly paired with their buttery soft croissant.
Servers were attentive and fantastic.

My husband surprised me with one of the most memorable dates we have ever had! The ambiance of not only the restaurant, but the grounds, the animals, and even the buildings are a visual buffet! The serving staff is beyond exemplary, the food is like a ballet for the pallet, and after you are finished dining, you can take carrots and feed the horses (who love to see the guests!) What an experience! From the moment we first drove in, until long after we left, it remains one of the best experiences of my life! If you are looking for somewhere to have not only a meal, but a full hospitality experience, please go and visit The Gates! This is one of those hidden gems and after the first visit, the bar for fine dining will be raised beyond your previous expectations! I would like to thank them for their hospitality in making this a very fond memory every time we visit.

I was part of a group of 8 celebrating our friends 20th wedding anniversary. This restaurant always offers a beautiful setting. The food is delicious and makes any occasion special. The staff was very friendly and attentive. One person in the group was Celiac and the waiter bent over backwards to accommodate him.
