The staff is amazing, and the hospitality is spot on. We arrived on time and were seated promptly by a very friendly hostess. Throughout the evening we were looked after to make sure everything was as we expected. The food arrived on time and was...prepared perfectly. Keep in mind this is a scratch restaurant so this means that there may be sudden changes to the menu because if something doesn't turn out perfectly than they won't serve it. We had this with our desert, and so the desert was limited to two items instead of three for that night. However the selection was still fantastic. Will defintely be coming back again.More

We booked reservation here because it looked like a cool little spot with a great vibe and they had gluten free options. At brunch, I order gluten free toast with my meal and when the meal came, there was only one slice of toast. When...I asked, they said at Shy's, an order of toast was one slice... so I asked for another piece. In total our table had four slices of toast. When we got the bill, we saw a surcharge for the GF toast (which is not uncommon) but an order is always two slices. So an order of toast at Shy's is $3 plus a surcharge of $2 for gluten free bread... for one slice!! So four slices of gluten free toast was $20 ($5 per piece).... which is obscene. And the worst part - I had a gluten reaction after - so they aren't even careful or aware of how to make sure there's no cross contamination. I wasn't going write this review until I had the reaction. I just want to give my Celiac and/or gluten intolerant people the heads-up... Very disappointed because it was a cool atmosphere and I thought I'd found new breakfast spot...More

I am almost afraid to review this restaurant it is so good, I want to save it for myself. Just wonderful food that is cooked from scratch and offers very generous portions. Our waitress was the absolute nicest. You might find it a little out...of the way but more than worth a visit.More

Went specificaaly for the eggs benedict. Unfortunately they didnt make it the classic way. Didnt make Hollandaise sauce just a bland Bechamel sauce. My partner had the beaded chicken which had no spice. Told the waiter but he didnt do anything about it. They just...want the business but the food doesnt seem to matter.More

I would not recommend this restaurant! Their service and polices are appalling! I made a reservation for 3 adults and 4 children on Sunday for Mother’s Day. In the meantime, we had a family emergency, and I completely forgot about the reservation with everything going....The restaurant phoned me at our reservation time, and I apologized that I forgot to let them know we could not go. The girl who called me said they would have to charge me $40 per person - $280!! I explained in detail my situation and she said she would call the manager and call me back. She called back and said they decided they were going to charge me! I was so shocked! I asked to speak with the manager and the girl said no I could not as they would not be in until Tuesday (2 days later). I cannot believe this policy I have never heard of a restaurant doing this. When I made the reservation, I did so over the phone as it was more than 6 ppl, and NO ONE TOLD ME that I would be charged if a no show. On top of that the amount they charge per person is WAY MORE THAN I WOULD HAVE SPENT…the children would not be drinking alcohol. I know I sound upset about the money, but it is more than that. It is now a week later, and the manager never did reach out to me!! This awful policy and no one telling me about it and then the lack of compassion is just all disgusting! I will never go back, and neither will any of my friends or family. I would not recommend giving your hard-earned money to this business.More

Had dinner there with some friends. Lovely ambience - the restaurant is in an old house with the tables scattered throughout the old rooms. It worked really well. Fast and friendly service. And, most important, all of us found our meals delicious. Each dish is...made from scratch so asking for a vegan or vegetarian version was easily accommodated. All of our plates were scraped clean. I sort of wanted to ask for seconds. As we had not seen each other in a while we sat and chatted for some time after our meal. There was no push to move us out. No hovering asking if we wanted our bill or anything like that. It was our first time there but we will definitely be returning.More

Called me 1-1/2 hours before our 4:30 p.m. reservation for today, Sunday, July 31st, to say they would not be ready for dinner until 6:00 p.m. Mom and I had left home already, to stop at the Tiny Shop Bakery on the same highway for...some pie and other baked goods, and then were going to stop next at the Farmer To You market, 400 metres down the road for some fresh produce. We had already travelled over 30 kilometres and 25 minutes driving by car from Brantford, and were literally 7 minutes and approximately 8 more kilometres away by car! NOT IMPRESSED. First time I've experienced a restaurant cancelling on me, never mind on the day of. Left me to scramble to find somwhere else to take mom to celebrate her 89th birthday, where I could find a reservation and outdoor patio. Had the nerve to then send an email cancelling the reservation and asking me if I'd like to book a new time? I already said 6:00 p.m. is too late for dinner for a senior. Re-book for a birthday that was today? Really? Unbelievable. Interestingly enough, I sent an email response when I got home to their email advice about not being ready for dinner until 6:00 p.m. (phone and email contact from them) about what I think of how they conduct "their business". It comes back noting their reservation team is unavailable, and: ***We are closed SATURDAY JULY 30th all day for a wedding, reopening for dinner service @ 4pm on Sunday July 31st.***More

Shy’s Place We had been given a gift certificate for Dinner at Shy’s place almost two years ago but being from far out of town it took us awhile to get there. We were not disappointed. Since I was driving, I started with a none...alcoholic drink called a Tiki Tonic which consisted of Sobiel gin, pineapple juice, tonic, and bitters. Very refreshing. My wife had Shy’s Summer sour with 2oz of Jose Cuervo, lime, guava juice and egg white. Again, a good summer drink. For our meal my wife (who has a restricted sodium diet) had the Moroccan Salad consisting of chick peas, cheery tomatoes, which she claimed were like candies, dates, goat cheese, mango vinaigrette, walnuts and spiced Moroccan chicken breast. The combination of flavours and textures along with the light but tasty dressing was a hit with her. My meal consisted of the Balsamic Steak Fettucine with tender chunks of beef tenderloin, roasted mushroom trio done to just the right smoothness, green peppercorns, garlic and a subtle balsamic cream sauce. For dessert we shared an intriguing chocolate Crème Brulee. A special thank you to Kayla Sticklee General Manager who ended up on her hands and knees dutifully taking care of a sudden leak from the floor above. With the attention to detail by our hostess and all the staff involved a grateful thank you from us.More

We thought it would be a great idea to go back to Shy's Place for Father's Day dinner. There were 6 of us and we sat outside on the patio. The outdoor patio is great - lots of space between tables, interesting seating areas, heaters,...and blankets for those cooler nights. Indoors looks as nice, but we haven't sat inside previously. Service was good, server was attentive, friendly. Food was mediocre to poor. Menu is not as varied as we would have liked. Some of the pictures on TripAdvisor of the food served was not even on the menu. We paid over $300 for dinner and we don't mind paying that but not when one of our meals was not hot, there really wasn't anything of interest for a child on the menu, pasta was ok not fabulous (supposed to be bacon and gorgonzola in the dish and the pieces were minuscule), and the jambalaya was so-so. They're charging Toronto/Oakville prices and the value just isn't there.More
