We were in Budapest for 3 days and spotted this place on our way to the hotel so went for breakfast. The decor and the atmosphere are really wonderful with a piano player or sometimes a trio playing during breakfast / Lunch. The staff were very nice and professional without being imposing. First visit was so good we went there... More

I travelled there with my wife and 7 month od daughter. We didn't have a booking and the place was full when we arrived. The staff couldn't do enough to accommodate us and sorted out with a table within 20 minutes. The food was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful and we had a fantastic time. It not cheap but... Hello Jeckeile, thanks for your kind review! Most of my colleagues at Deryne have their own family and kids, so we understand how rare and important it is to be taken care of the right way in a café when arriving with children. Children are our pride, joy and future - their well being is everything. And we are here... More

I think Deryne is not really a place for traditional Hungarian dishes but its charm lies at its fusion between Hungarian and French (?!). Our food was well done and nicely decorated, and I'm most impressed with their bakery and desserts. For dessers, we ordered cottage cheese dumpling (absolutely love it!!) and mandarin morange. Beware that their desserts are very... More

Hello Trang, Thanks for that super picture of our signature tangerine pavlova with french meringues, cold-pressed sour mango and tangerine cream and candied tangerines. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we like to prepare it day after day! Our bakery lies across the patio and you can always pick up these giant meringues for takeaway so you can make... More

Food was ok; price too expensive for location (next to a busy and noisy street) and type of restaurant and food.

We ate here for breakfast, arriving at about 9:30 am. The restaurant was fairly empty. We started with their freshly squeezed juices: orange, carrot, beetroot and all were delicious. We also tried their Danish pastry and croissant and both were up to par! The cooked breakfasts arrived in a timely manner and tasted great. They were served in a cast... More

I've had many Eggs Benny in my life, but I can honestly say, this was the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had - a bold statement, but true. The coffee was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. It had that lovely European sidewalk cafe feel, which was perfect on a sunny summer morning. The service was also very friendly and... More

This was the best restaurant we visited during our weekend trip to Budapest. We started off with a drink called spicy deryne which was very good and different. The to the food. A majority of the 6 of us chose the slow braised beef chin with mashed potatoes and it was amazing. The meat was so tender it just fell... More

Under a last minute suggestion, we arrived at the restaurant without reservation but fortunately they had a table for us.. great menu with traditional dishes suggested in a modern key. Absolutely gorgeous the crispy duck as main course and pate to start with. Excellent service and attention to the guests..!

Buda's oldest and largest landmark Bistro dating back to 1914, serving warm meals and light appetisers from early in the morning till late at night. Live jazz concerts, wine cellar, open fire place in several dining rooms. Large local bar scene. Kitchen open past midnight most nights. The on-site bakery serves the restaurant and a small artisan bread shop next door. More casual wine bar 'spicc' operated by Deryne just down the street.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
