Probably it counts a very good sushi place in Budapest, but we're spoiled by the numerous excellent sushi restaurants of Sydney. The sushi in Okuyama was average, and only the ambiance of the restaurant lifted it's value a bit in our eyes. The service was attentive and fast, and we could see, that most of the other customers were regulars.... More

Wish i took photos to show how bad looking my sushi roll was. Chef used too much Rice or not enough nori, but I didn't have a full round maki, it was falling apart, without touching it. Part of the problem that he used old, cold, tasteless rice, so the real essence of sushi was already ruined. The nori was... More

More

Guys, its a very simple place, restaurant. A bit hard to find but you will be happy at the end. Not luxury but fresh and rich sushi. Not overpriced like Fuji! Recommended!!

After sampling sushi in a number of places in Budapest we found this one to be by far the best. But the rating is only average when measured against sushi in other cities. My take away is that one shouldn't bother with sushi in Budapest. But Okuyama was a nice dining experience. It's a little out of the way place... More

The location is a bit outside the centre of Budapest, but easily accessible with public transport or car. There are signs showing the way down to the restaurant, as soon as you arrive you are greeted by a welcoming staff of two and head chef. The place is nothing close to fancy or elegant, but you are not here for... More

Interesting place, quite messy but bringing a more authentic feeling than the fancy sushi restaurants one can find in big cities. It very much reminds family restaurants in Japan. All in all, very good quality sushis & authentic feeling.

Okuyama surely requires an open attitude. No fancy furniture, no fancy service, you have to focus on the food. Since he accepts no compromise in quality, don't be surprised if some fish are not available. On the other hand: there may be additional surprises. Best tip: for desert forget sweets, and ask for the unlisted marinated fried eel sushi (unagi).... More
