I dropped by for a late lunch during a walk in the area. The place was empty and I was quickly seated upstairs. The decor tries to be Irish (dart boards, guinness on draft, Jamesons & Tullamore Dew) but the menu is all Hungarian. I had a local draft and a pasta plate: sour cream, cream cheese, bacon crunchies on... More

I found the pub quite by chance - I was out exploring the area and came upon it. Although this was my first time in Budapest the interior of the pub struck me straight away as an authentic pub frequented by the area's locals, rather then by tourists. Strangely though, the pub didn't have any Hungarian beer on draught! My... More

We just happened to walk past this pub and didn't have very high expectations. However the waiters were very welcoming and spoke excellent English. We chose the goulash and the stuffed paprika. Without any experience of Hungarian food this seemed like good hearty authentic food that was perfect for refuelling at lunchtime on a hard day's sightseeing. The pub has... More

We stopped for lunch during a stroll around Buda and were glad we picked this establishment. When we first turned up the cleaning was still going on as they don't open until 12 o'clock. No problem, we just went for a beer down the road and then returned as this place looked so inviting. Our table was up the spiral... More

We had a very nice lunch at a sidewalk table at the Polo Pub today. The waiter & waitress both spoke fluent English and they had English menu's. Service was excellent. I had Hungarian goulash and my wife had baked sausage. Both were very nice and very reasonably priced. The location is a little off the beaten path for tourists... More

Walking in and you know your in a proper pub with an all wood interior and great beer enamel's and beer poster's plastered all over the pub. We were greeted warmly by the staff were we opted to... Description
The Polo Pub opened in 1990. After many years, wandering around the World, the owner fell in love with the atmosphere of the English pubs. Drived by this magical feeling, he founded the Polo Pub, with the atmosphere he was always in love with.

Our aim is to provide wide range of quality and unique beers, combining these with the finest and oldest local recipies and meals.

This place will be perfect for you, if you wish to enjoy an Irish style pub, far away from it's origins, but boosted with local specialities.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
