We went to Carmel after finding it recommended on a few websites. The food was lovely - I had 'Hortobagy' meat pancakes followed by the cholent. The restaurant was very quiet, a world away from the busy bars and ruin pubs all around the Jewish...More

We ate in the restaurant one night and also took some food out. Although we tried to order veal, we were informed there was no veal or lamb that night. Would have been nice to tell us that when we sat down! We had the...More

Carmel is a relatively expensive restaurant where a meat patty starter, a roast beef main, french fries and diet coke cost $28. The menu is far more extensive than Hanna's and they have seating downstairs as well as upstairs.

I came in to this restaurant expecting to be disappointed and was not surprised when the food was not great. If you keep kosher and need a hot meat bite to eat in Budapest, you don't really have any other options.

I guess if we didn't keep kosher, we would never have entered. The feeling is that of a captive audience. They know we know they know that there aren't that many choices if you have to eat at a kosher restaurant. It's not that the...More

Me and my wife visited here form me to try kosher food for the first time, I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had, the food was very bland and uninspiring.

District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses
the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and
colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in
an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes
and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic
crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of
the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in
Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly
