We visited here for my birthday in February. The live music was a great touch. The food was great and the service was too. The building is very pretty inside.

Superb food, superb service, superb ambience, glorious decor. You will get a warm welcome to probably one of the best restaurants in Budapest with a history going back over 100 years - all you need to do is ask about its history! If you are lucky you will choose a night when Lajos Sarkosi and his band are playing live.

Not by chance you wouldn't find locals to dine here, as the prices are for the Hungarian costumer too high. Very nice ambiente, good food, attantive service.

We had a lovely time at this classically Hungarian restaurant. The wine and the food was fantastic. The ambience was amazing and the house band very entertaining. To top it off we received great service.

A group of 7 stumbled upon this Gem and looking at the unassuming entrance we only had the Menu on the wall to go on which seemed real fair prices. Did not expect the experience that we had which in a word was Perfect. The service the Gypsy band playing in the corner simply added to the evening. This was... More

Peel away the thin veneer of tradition and this place serves low quality basic food at very high prices (£20 for a serving of stew!), and tries to con you at every opportunity. From the wine served which wasn't remotely what was ordered but a cheap alternative, to the hard sell of a CD for you guessed it another £20... More

From the moment of entering the restaurant to the time we left the service was flawless. Fantastic food and wine, the icing on the cake was the fabulous live music.

A restaurant that tries to hide its mediocrity behind a curtain of pompous velvets and overstaffed dining rooms. It looks like it survives only by "bribing" nearby hotels into sending unaware tourists to the place. We dined here after our hotel refused to reserve a table for the two of us at another restaurant and insisted that this was better... More

The place looks amazing the service is second to none and rather quirky with their use of cloches over there dishes. The food was interesting and the live music was great. We went for our first meal in Budapest and we felt it was a great welcome to Hungary Would highly recommend more for the experience than just the food.

We visited on a Sunday evening, no reservation required, the restaurant was less than half full and the traditional Hungarian folk band were performing. The menu was interesting and a reasonable selection of traditional dishes. We opted for the goulash soup which seemed to lack the essential ingredient paprika as there was little spice or flavour to it and required... More

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
