#The character of the cafe may be best exemplified by their humorous and informative self-published newspaper, which gave a history of the area as well as a great pastry recommendation. #Great old atmosphere, with a late 19th century look.

We were tired and need a pause. But this cafe was a real disappointment. From the outside it looks amazing, but it isn't. The price of the pastries and the overall price level of the cafe was very expensive, and the staff was arrogant and not nice however.

This is a typical restaurant for tourists, who doesn't know what is the real hUngarian kitchen. The prices are very high, the service is not the best.

If you are ever in Budapest do not miss your chance to visit this beautiful place, located just in the city center and easy to be reached by underground. To begin with the interior, it is simply flawless and done with a great taste, making it a high-class place to be. I went there with my husband for a dessert... More

Lovely setting to take time out. The place has loads of history and considering it attracts lots of tourists the prices are not ridiculous. If you are a hot chocolate lover then you will be in heaven, they make their own and Cadburys it isn't! Have one with a cheeky shot of brandy on a cold day!

We visited in the late afternoon on a Wednesday and The Central was not busy. Before you go, you must take a few minutes to read up on its history. Then go and sit, and absorb its elegant interior with a fabulous hot chocolate or glass of wine.

Without doubt, my favourite cafe in Budapest! As a historian, I went to the New York and the Muvesz too as these were turn of the century romantic establishments too, but for me the Central had the best atmosphere and the cakes were simply great, cheap by comparison at £2-3 to the £6 upwards charged by the New York. There... More

Beautiful setting and decor, food is massively overpriced for average fare (£19 for an omelette and yoghurt with musli with some day old chopped up apple).

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
