one of Szeged's iconic places with very fine Hungarian and international cuisine, in a traditional pub setting

Top location at the end of Szeged's short pedestrian zone, very cosy atmosphere, like in a British family pub. The food is very good, mainly Hungarian with some international elements. Service is good and English speaking. Only last time, when there was high business on the terrace, the waiter was not as attentive as on previous occasions, we had to remind him our additional orders a couple of times. But this was an exception, normally they are always with an eye on their guests. Very good food quality, Prices for some items are high (e.g. draft Guinness, goose liver) for Hungarian standards (but still o.k. in international terms). Surely one of the best places for fine food and a nice setting in Szeged, don't miss it! And above all, it is an animal friendly place: your dog is welcome, outside and inside (still not that way in every Szeged restaurant!)

If we tell you that we are traveling from another country to eat in this restaurant, that must be a big compliment! Its our third time, 4 of us, and EVERY single meal is divine! The quality and taste are for 10! Pork Vellington, gnocchi in blue cheese, Bites of chicken breast with honey and chili in a crispy coat, served with mascarpone,Mediterranean roll baked in Snidling Parmesan sauce, with crispy garlic potatoes etc etc etc. All recomendation ! P.s Sorry we didnt take pictures, to busy with eating🙂

A good one in Szeged

Went for lunch with a couple of local friend because they like it. It is a chain yet they do pretty good stuff. Enjoyable grilled goose liver roasted apples. My friend liked his steak, while I had the Wagyu. Mine was cooked to perfection and tasty, it just did not have the japanese A5 texture, marble and flavor. It was closer to the Australian wagyu. Still very enjoyable. The other friend had the duck breast and said it was good. Service was professional and friendly. Everyone was on top of their game.

Disappointed

I was really disappointed in the quality of the place it became very very bad and the prices dosen't match the quantity nor the quality. And over all you receive the bill with a must pay tips and is written TIP and the amount . Its really annoying that you are forced to give your money for something which is not good and more than all you are forced to tip. It's even seen that alot of people left the place and it's not as it was in the past. My advise is for the amount you spend there you can enjoy double size for the money with better quality in alot of szeged city restaurants. You can only drink a good environment expensive beer here and then move on.

Great place and nice dishes

Nice staff, wonderful dishes and pleasure atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant if you stay in Szeged. We ordered garlic pasta with shrimps, steak with asparagus and had some drinks. They were really fast and all dishes were great! The place was a little noisy because of some drunk young people, but this is a pub, so this is what it is.

Good food, good people, excellent at all

the pub looks extraordinarily good. the food, especially the goulash soup, is very good. note 10 for pickles, especially pickled cucumbers. the staff is very friendly, even though we did not have the reservation we were allowed to stay at the bar, an excellent idea. soft drinks, very good food, prices are neither low nor high. instead, the tip is collected on the tax receipt. overall a superlative experience, we will definitely return. keep up the good work

Great hospitality and service

It was a pleasure eating in this wonderful pub. The staff is amazingly hospitable and kind, excellent cooking and the wine list is also impressive for somebody who loves a good wine. We loved it so much, so we decided to come back and everytime we were pleasantly surprised.

Delicious food and very good service

One of the oldest and most iconic places in Szeged, John Bull Pub doesn't disappoint after all these years. The menu is quite large, and usually this isn't a good sign, but in this case, it works. We had the ribeye and the beef cheeks. They were both melt-in-your-mouth tender. Even the plating was miles above your usual pub plates. Overall a very, very good lunch.

Meal and a drink

Visited to eat out one evening. The pub was beautifly decorated for Halloween. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Decided to try the guiness on tap which turned out to be a mistake as it was horrible, possibly the worst I have ever tasted - it was sharp and bitter and I put it down to experience. The menu looked very comprehensive, if not a little pricy. Unfortunately I the aweful guiness put me off trying the food so we ate elsewhere. The pub itself was very nicely decorated and welcoming but......

Great food in the city center!

You cannot miss the place in the very center of Szeged. We ordered 4 totally different meals and everything was great! Delicious, fresh, well served, nice staff. Decent prices. Everything was great and I recommend it!

Great selection of Hungarian wines.

We chanced upon the pub yesterday as we were walking the streets of Szeged. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pub does not have any English beer but an amazing selection of local and Hungarian wines. The food smelt and looked amazing. Well worth a visit.

It has great ambiance and the food/drinks are amazing. Loved the chicken Kiev and their chocolate souffle. Highly recommend!

Here we eat our lunch. The food was very good. I would recomend it, the mozzarella salad was great and I loved it. Location is also in the center. It a bit expensive therefore 4stars. Other than that, it was great.
