Excellent! Stop inside, the food is as good as the view. I don't understand the bad reviews. Under new ownership; got to meet the family & they were great! My children wouldn't be who they are today if I hadn't stopped...and I don't even have kids yet ;)

Our boat Captain suggested the Hilltop for dinner as opposed to the Akaroa area for its scenery. We were not disappointed as the view overlooking the valley is stunning. Very personable wait staff who made excellent suggestions such as their wood fired oven thin crust pizzas and pork ribs. Service was prompt and friendly and you will not be disappointed... More

Conveniently located enroute to the Akaroa or the French Farms from Christchurch, this is definitely must stop at to take in the astounding view of the lake and the mountains, plus, you're greeted by a sheep and a goat (i assume they are residents). After our alpaca farm tour, we caught a bite on the way back to our hotel... More

Visited amongst seven bus trips that were visiting this tourist site in the one day. Despite the really busy moments dealing with making hundreds of coffees, service was good. Had amazing pizza from their pizza oven and a good Panhead beer on tap to wash it down. Great views and food, worth going to.

I recently took a group of 5 friends to Akaroa. It was early in the morning when we reached the summit but too early for the tavern to be open. We did venture in to see what our chances for a coffee were and had a warm and friendly welcome from the new owners. They got the coffee, tea and... More

Apparently new owner who turns out to be rude and irresponsible. I ordered GF fish and chips (which was on the menu!) and my friend a special: 'pizza margarita with fresh basil'. She got an impossible thin pizza with some tomato spread, nothing else. When we asked for the basil, the waitress/owner said "Oh, we were out of basil, didn't... More

I have wanted to call into this bar for some long, my curiosity is now satisfied. I can see the appeal of sitting outside on a sunny day the views are amazing, however the inside of the bar needs a face lift to say the least. This bar/restaurant has so much potential to make it into something stunning, calling in... More

The Hilltop is perched on the pass overlooking the beautiful Akaroa Harbour. Its a classic 1930s pub building with a nice front lawn to enjoy the view. Great fair-trade coffee & loose leaf tea. Craft beer and local, sustainable wines. Check out our websites for upcoming live music.
