Back after 2 years and the experience was not better. While mezcal remains the drinks focus, the cocktails were so complicated that the mezcal itself had trouble asserting itself. The food is good but the menu is moving in a direction away from its past...More

Hard to over-rate, our party-of-four had excellent experience here. Thick chips with Salsa de Maranon was a great start with drinks. We followed that with a roasted cauliflower dish whose name I do not recall - and I do not see it now on the...More

Sometimes you visit a restaurant and have a really great experience – that was exactly what happened at Espita Mezcaleria. I had read the rave newspaper reviews, I like Mezcal, and adore good Mexican food, so it seemed like a no brainer to go there....More

This place is most certainly an "interesting" find for authentic Mexican cuisine. The restaurants ambiance includes paintings of sugar skulls and urban Mexican decor, a very nice indoor patio area, and intimate lighting throughout the restaurant. The service we received was prompt and attentive. Our...More

Went here for the first time and the experienced WOWed me. The place is in an area of town that you would not have walked in some years ago, but now is across the street from the very successful Washington Convention Center and in the...More

I tried out Espita for lunch with a group during a convention. It is conveniently located across the street from the Walter Washington Convention Center. The food isn’t your average Mexican offering, it is a more dynamic and inspired menu. Some of the options seem...More

Limited menu so make sure you check it out prior as many pairings are a little different. Great place if you like tequila. I had wine that was very good. Enjoyed my meal. Nice wait staff.

Made from scratch. Unique flavors. Must stop. Margaritas are made with mezcal, smokey deliciousness. Muscle and avacados are amazing

So I went here with my teenage boys for dinner - thought they were pretty cool sitting at the bar eating! The staff on the whole were helpful but I got the feeling that they liked it that they knew more than you about the...More

I almost never write reviews of places in my hometown (DC), because 1) if it's a favorite, I like to keep it quiet; 2) if it's not a favorite, I see no upside in cutting down a fellow neighbor. This place earns an exception simply...More

Hi Varina, My team embarrassingly told me about your experience the following morning. The reason your table was delayed and the restaurant seemed chaotic was our POS system has gone completely down in a way we've never experienced before and everyone was scrambling to recover....More

Located in Shaw, Espita is exploring the food, drinks, and culture of southern Mexico Driven by a quest to surface authentic flavors and techniques, Chef Rob Aikens and Beverage Director Megan Barnes are constantly pushing their teams to research and create. They fuel their creativity with inspiration from their many travels to Mexico, bringing home memories and people they want to honor with their food and drink. We specialize in Oaxacan cuisine seen through the lens of the Mid-Atlantic. You will not find traditional Oaxacan dishes here. Instead you will find authentic Oaxacan flavors and techniques applied to the beautiful seasonal bounty of our region, creating a unique experience only available here. Food is the story of people. Espita is our story about the people we've had the honor to meet on our journeys and how they've impacted us.
