Maybe it was the misfortune of dining out on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend; what we found was that La Taberna del Alabardero was operating at a level far below its historic, much-heralded reputation as a purveyor of authentic Spanish cuisine. Our appetizers of Ensalada Clásica “Alabardero" and "Carpaccio de Gamba y Guacamole" were up to standard - crispy, fresh... More

Dear BRHS1970, Let me start by thanking you for your constructive feedback, which we take really seriously and secondly, I want to extend my most sincere apologies for your recent negative experience with our paella in this case. For your piece of mind , NO DEAD giveaways are served in TDA and NO leftovers either, that is not accurate with... More

Situated in central Washington Taberna Del Alabardero offers authentic Spanish food. The restaurant is pretty big with well spaced seating. The menu has a lot of fish, and some meat options alongside a variety of Tapas. The food was nicely prepared and the staff really friendly and helpful. A good choice for large groups.

Classic Spanish cuisine in an elegant setting with professional service. The setting alone is worth the visit -- old world elegance at its best. The menu has all that one could hope for including a vast Charcuterie set, pork and meant offerings and a vast assortment of seafood. The paellas are outstanding, particularly thye very authentic Paella Valenciana. The tapas... More

It is my favorite Spanish restaurant in town. Excellent paella and the tapas tasted like real tapas. Croquetas were cold, but waiters fixed it as soon as we request! We know that comparing with Spain portions are not that big and prices are higher than Spain, but the idea is to taste the best of the Spanish food. Excellent place... More

Good Basque restaurant. We liked the Mousse de queso de cabra, pedacitos de tocino y aceite de oliva, crema de castana con pedacitos de panceta y cranberries macerados en jerez, c ochinito al aroma de citricos mermelada de toronja y ensalada de frisee Take Metro-Farragut West, 18th St Exit (you can see it from the station).

When the weather is nice, there are few places that beat La Taberna for out door seating in downtown DC. And when its cold, even fewer places can capture the warmth and charm of Basque country with its elegantly appointed tapestry, painting, and photos. La Taberna is the consummate power lunch spot and great for happy hours. The food is... More

When I visit DC I try to make time to stop at Taberna del Alabardero. {FYI if you plug the address on your GPS it might go around and around and not get you there, as the entrance is actually on 18th Street. There is a parking garage adjacent to the restaurant and they validate parking}. It was a Tuesday... More

In summary, elegant fine-dining with panache! The tuxedo-clad fantastic service staff served fantastically-presented delicious cuisine. Clearly, this is a scene to-be seen, with power-brokers surrounding us, the beautiful restaurant had multiple options; outside white-tablecloth dining, lovely great-room (again white tablecloth) dining and semi-private with sumptuous surroundings dining, and I'm certain there must be private rooms as well.
