My wife and I had lunch at J Paul’s during a recent visit back to DC (I lived in Georgetown in the 90’s), and I was looking forward to having her experience one of my favorite restaurants. To be honest I was quite disappointed. The...More

Located right in the heart of Georgetown, this historic gem offers great oysters at happy hour from 4-7. The food is American and a little pricey, but great to sit by the window and people watch...

We stopped in for a quick bite to eat and ending up staying most of the day. The honey old bay wings were delicious. We also enjoyed the homemade sangria!! Hand cut fruit pieces we a great touch. This was a great Georgetown find!

Mixed feelings about tonight's dinner. We went to the iconic J Paul's in Georgetown. They have photo on the wall of someone who looks like J Paul Getty, but that could be a cheeky joke. When we got there, the noise levels were deafening. The...More

J Paul's is a solid, Georgetown mainstay, with a great pub/saloon vibe, a beautiful 100+ year old bar (from the Chicago Stockyards), and good food. The waitstaff is always attentive, even with my recent party of 8 on a crowded Georgetown University graduation weekend. Standouts...More

Had lunch there on a Saturday afternoon. Amiable atmosphere with a menu that offered many choices. Service was good and the food was tasty. Pricey, but not for Georgetown.

Description
J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
