My wife is Mexican and has been craving homemade empanadas. While planning a trip to DC we found this place on a cheap eats list because we were wanting to save money. We stopped by and got a chorizo empanada and a Chilean empanada. Both were full of flavor and really good. The pastry was nice and light. The prices... More

Had the lunch special, which included an "entrée" empanada, dessert empanada, and drink for around $7. Staff was quick and helpful, and lunch was very good (I ordered the Jamaican).

I tried Julia's empanadas in 2012. Since I was in Adams Morgan, I decided to give it another try. The server was extremely aggressive and rude. I was planning to have a seat but I changed my mind after he yelled at me because I asked him if I could pay with credit card ($9.96)... It was scary, Empanadas are... More

Julia's Empanadas is always a good choice for fast, convenient, easy to carry, deliciousness. The jerk chicken, the traditional beef, the veggie all good. Julia still is at the helm and she insists on quality food and a well run shop. Headed to the Mall for sightseeing? Avoid the hot dog stand or the over priced museum cafes, throw a... More

I waited a LONG time to try these empanadas and they did not disappoint. Stick with the spicy meat, pulled chicken or veggie... once you try going with another ethnic taste, (like spinach and cheese), they lose their authentic feeling. I couldve eaten these all day and night and nothing else all week long!

The place was a little crowded with no bathrooms so I can't give this a full five stars. There is a good selection of empanadas that taste wonderful. The Jamaican empanada was mouthwatering but the chilean one with the beans was not to my taste. Good price, fast service.

These are the best empanadas I have tried in DC! They are open until 4am! And its not uncommon to find a large line at 3 am! The owner is very kind and the prices are very good.

Julia's was introduced to me by a co-worker years ago and I've gone back every opportunity I've gotten. Hands down one of the best places in this country to get empanadas! Even better, get them and sit in the circle and eat and people watch. I can't think of a better way to spend a lunch break!

Stopped by after drinks in the bar next door. Excellent to fill a hole! Two is more than enough. Kept hot until back at hotel.

They may not be the best every, but they have so much going for them that I can't help but recommend them: filling, fresh, consistent, and reasonably-priced. Great for a late night nosh or an actual lunch/dinner. Make sure you get one of the deals!
