It's been there forever and who knew. Great did, especially the fried spinach and their cool to order fried chicken. Awesome.

I had been meaning to go to this place for a while. It was a girls night out and we wanted to talk and this was the perfect place. The drinks were really good and there were oldies being played on a Jukebox. The waitress was attentive and didn't rush us. We started with the calamari, it was tasty but... More
Some years back I told a coworker that I missed southern style food and soul food... she took me here and WOW! Really down home like from Moms... from collards, chicken fried chicken to mac & cheese or just anything - it's gooood! Needless to say, I kept goin' back! I've never tried their desserts (I'm told there to die... More
This is a hidden gem in the Petworth area. The food is very tasty and at a great price. They make their delicious fried chicken to order, so it does take bout 20-30 to prepare, but it is worth the wait. I have always wanted to try other things on the menu, but it is too tasty to give up!... More
I've been coming to the Old Soldier's Home for years and all of our trips off site to eat, I have missed this gem. First off the food was just excellent. The prices were fair and the portions were very generous. I had two fillets of the blackened catfish. The sides are generous in my mind. They have seating inside... More
I read reviews stating how good the fried chicken was. I got 2 orders of nice sized wings (6 total) for $12. They had no taste at all, just plain fried chicken. Ordered 2 sides of greens, they tasted just as plain, just canned collard greens heated up.
My daughter and I chose to eat lunch here after a tour of Lincoln's cottage, a short walk from the gate. It is definitely comfort food. We could have made a meal out of the sides--a great variety. We both ordered sandwiches but added sides of corn bread, macaroni cheese, coleslaw and fried spinach. It was all good, but the... More
A portion of fried chicken is half a chicken and each piece is better than the one before! Two of us had the chicken and decided it was the best ever. All four of us agreed the coleslaw was also outstanding. Incredible breading on the pork chops and fish too! And Shirley couldn't have provided better service. We think this... More
Right across the street from Lincoln's Cottage, The Hitching Post is a delightful surprise. It has been around for 45+ years (although the owners sold it two years ago) with southern cooking as its specialty. Good soups, salads and appetizers to start your meal but the "stars of the show" here are the entrees. The fried chicken dinner (chicken, mashed... More
