Provides a variety of Indian food dishes from different parts of the country. Fairly tasty, however a little pricey.

This is a Zagat rated cafe so we had to try the food. As we are vegetarian, we shared a Nopolito and Roasted Chile Chimichanga, yucca fries, a black bean soup and 2 portions of Aztec rice. My son LOVED the Aztec rice with black bean soup poured over it. The prices were high (over $40 for the 2 of... More

I was told that this is rated the best among the restaurants in the Smithsonian museums. It was definitely better than going to a McDonalds or something like that. The restaurant has several different stands for the various dishes. You can get authentic food from the Americas or more common foods like chicken strips. That part I did enjoy. However,... More

My husband and my children loved this cafe. They couldn't get enough of the native tacos and fry bread. I, on the other hand, was disappointed. Prior to our trip I was so excited to be able to eat native tacos again (I crave them and can only seem to get them out west), and for the price (I think... More

We loved Mitsitam! After learning so much in the museum's exhibits, it was fun to see the range of choices in the cafe reflecting the different geographic regions and differences between American Indian nations' cuisines. I do wish we had been better prepared for the prices -- so much of the food looked amazing, but for lunch at a museum... More

...with a wonderful selection! The Mitsitam Cafe should be on your list of places to eat while you're wandering museums. The foods are all indigenous recipes and incredibly delicious. I had braised buffalo with a wild rice salad and roasted golden beets with a tall glass of hibiscus agua fresca. The pricing is fairly steep, but when you consider a)... More

We came here for lunch because we kept hearing how amazing the food was. The first thing we noticed was how over the top expensive everything was. We finally decided to try a buffalo burger and buffalo chili cheese fries. We shared the meal (and it ended up being $20+) and I was glad we didn't both order that because... More

Located inside the American Indian Museum they serve rather unique A. Indian cuisine from around the continent. It is a refreshing choice compared to the McDs located next door; however, it is still very much a fast food courtyard.

We live in DC but frequently take visitors to Mitsitam or just go ourselves. There are numerous food stations, each featuring a number of selections from different Native American cultures. We love them all. Biggest problem is getting up to walk through Mall Museums after huge lunch. But be warned, it is not cheap and being cafeteria style, you go... More

I've been here from time to time in the past, but this time I really took note of the over-the-top prices. The food is different and some of it is good, but NONE of it is worth the price charged for a cafetria where you have to bus your own tray. A family of four could easily spend a hundred... More
