We came in after a 5 mile hike completely soaked and we were welcomed in even though we are drentched and freezin. They had us seated and had the hot tea and ale coming in little time. Our waitress "Anne" was very attentive and simpathetic to our plight. "You went out in this, she said...No excuses right? We all laughed,... More

The food and service is great! The ambience is a little too loud due to an old building. Hard to hear each other talk. During the summer great patio dining area. Also throughout the year there is live music

It can be a bit too loud in there for my taste. The beer is deliciously cold. I had the Ruben sandwich on this turn, oh so yummy, tender and no yucky fat parts--all good meat. The coleslaw was very good too. Husband had the Tri-tip sandwich and sweet potato fries, very good. Service is quite nice too.

Menu is minimal atmosphere is loud. It was crowded so we had to sit at the bar. Do not enter when crowded.

This place is amazing. The bar tends to be friendly and open to spontaneous conversations when appropriate. Half local, half people passing through or occasional visitors on their way up or back from Tahoe. This gives the place a great sense of vitality. If you like IPA's, I recommend the PU240. Strong but delicious.

Let me make sure you understand that I, like Mark Twain, am not prone to hyperbole or exaggeration, but... If you drink IPAs, you're a %&^%&%*##-ing idiot if you don't stop here and try the ZZ Hop fresh from the tap. Oh, you're on the way to Tahoe but you don't "have time" to visit - you're a %&^%&%*##-ing idiot!... More

Stopped in here for a quick lunch. Not expecting much more than a typical pub style we had the clam chowder and a burger. The chowder was very good and the burger is the best I've had in Auburn. Really very good.

Ate at the bar. Friendly. Good food. Beer choice amazing and we like wine. Enjoyed a tasting flight of local area wine. Perfect stop on way back from Tahoe.

We had dinner on the patio and thought it hit all the marks: good beer, good food, good service and a big welcome to our dog, Seamus, who was joining us. The manager even brought out strips of bacon for him. They have heaters on the patio so even on a chilly night it's easy to sit outside with the... More

Met our son and wife for a late lunch/early dinner at the Alehouse on a Tuesday afternoon about 3pm. Worked out really well as we found parking (generally a problem in Old Town Auburn during prime-time lunch and dinner hours) and we could get into the brewery/restaurant without a wait. While it was early afternoon, there was a decent crowd... More

Brian & Lisa Ford opened Auburn Alehouse Brewery & Restaurant in 2007 in the iconic Shanghai Restaurant, embracing the building's character and colorful history in the heart of Historic Auburn. While enjoying their full bistro menu, patrons can often see Brian & his brewers making world-class beer in small batches, using only the finest malted barley and American-grown hops. With a collection of prestigious awards hanging on the wall it's easy to see why the SacBee recently said Auburn Alehouse is one of the region's premier craft breweries. Favorites include the Gold Digger IPA (CA State Fair Gold Medal Winner), Gold Country Pilsner (GABF Gold Medal Winner), Hop Donkey (GABF Silver Medal Winner) and PU240 IPA! Lunch and Dinner are served every day, while our Brunch menu is served on Saturday and Sunday from 9am-noon. Don't forget we have a dog friendly patio!
