We went camping up in the SGV Nat Forest. for the Holiday weekend. BUT we forgot to bring a lighter for the camp fire. This place saved us. He had matches for us and could see how tired we were and offered us a wonderful bowl of chili. This place is all the way up HWY 39 in the SG... More

Great food and a cozy, friendly place to relax for lunch or after a day in the forest. Be sure to meet the owners who have an amazing story of reopening the cafe after the road had been closed for over 10 years. Cabin rentals, too!

I was there with my kids and the chocolate was delicious, same as the banana bread cooked there, hospitality was just great!!! The owner Adam is a great person, we actually drove back next day, since he was a very nice person.

Hiked up to Crystal Lake with some buds, last weekend, just to see the area now that the road is open. The area has really come back from the fires a few years ago. I had read some reviews on the old trading post conversion to a snack bar and tried a bowl of chili that was recommended. It really... More

The mountains around LA are worth exploring and you don't need a 4WD. The Crystal Lake Drive up route 39 with stops to hike is well worthwhile although Crystal Lake itself is disappointing. We planned a 4-5 hour trip from Pasadena and extended to dusk because its great wilderness and we got lunch at the snack bar. The website: http://www.crystallake.name/... More

A perfect destination for a drive into the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California. This wonderful, historic cafe has been recently reopened and offers a modest but adequate menu. The chili is not to be missed. This, sandwiches. and the other homemade goodies are very reasonably priced. Adam, the operator, has lived on the mountain for some time and can... More
