We had a large group - nine - with a reservation at 5:00. They were ready for us when we walked in. We had six adults and three young people - 13, 12 and 9. The kids are not overly picky but aren't very fond of most sauces. They ordered what they wanted - essentially steak and potatoes but without... More

The staff is very knowledgeable, every question answered. Even when we asked the bus person, she went and found the answer. The menu changes a lot, which I really like. Very creative without being ridiculous. While you may not love everything, there is something that will make you come back.

The National is our go-to for a date night or hosting friends in town. Peter Dale does fresh, innovative Mediterranean with Southern favorites from local farms. The hanger steak is always on point but the veggie plate is my favorite. The Power Lunch plate is always delicious and beautiful.

This was our third trip to The National (and my last). Service was great and the food was very good, but portions very small. I had the new lamb entree. It consisted of two chops that were about 1/4" thick. I've never seen any cut that thin and can't imagine how they did it. After cutting the meat from the... More

My first visit to The National. Have attempted to come here several times, but parking is difficult. Don't give up! I came by for lunch and had the Steak Frites. Great meal. Sliced hangar steak cooked perfectly,on a bed of fresh cut fries and lettuce, and radishes with a nice vinaigrette dressing. Not over filling for lunch. I think I... More

I love eating at The National in Athens. It is right downtown and has the most delicious food. Always very fresh and plenty of vegetables!

The chicken and scallops were unbelievable! Service was also exceptional too. I would recommend making a reservation before you visit.

the national serves incredible food, with a great wine list, at a fair price. a great place for both "special" occasions and dinner with friends, but do make a reservation. the service is friendly and excellent. also a great place to eat "quickly"--appetizers and wine, for example, at the bar, especially before or after seeing a film next door at... Delicious food from local producers. Limited menu which means each item is made in house. Be sure to get one of their specialty cocktails. My favorite is the Garden Coup!!!

Loved this place! The food is great, and fresh, and different. They have some very unique menu options that you can't find anywhere else and the menu is always changing. We had the brussel sprouts tapas and their lamb and hummus tapas with a vegetable plate for dinner and small cup of mushroom bisque. Everything was awesome! I can't wait... More

Open for lunch Monday - Saturday and dinner daily; our bar also remains open for coffee and tapas during the day 2:30 - 5pm.

The idea behind The National is simple: to provide a casual neighborhood gathering spot reminiscent of the bars and cafés we’ve enjoyed on travels to Europe. Mediterranean inspired food and wine is served for lunch and dinner in the dining room and throughout the day at the bar. While our menu points to culinary traditions from abroad, we value our local farmers and our dishes reflect the changing seasons in Northeast Georgia.
