Ok, if you're eating at the The Varsity, you're probably already aware that this stuff is a heart attack on a plate, but what a way to go! The chili steak (chili burger), the fries (greasy and plenty of 'em), and the jumbo Frosted Orange (frozen orange heaven) would rank high on my choices of a last meal. If you... More

Good fast food , but it is greasy, the onion rings and fries are good. Also orange drink very good. Has been in Athens a long time. They have a car show the first sat or sun of the month.

The rating of 3 stars is only because as an older adult, I have lost my taste for fired and foods. The onion rings are divine, chili steaks, and my favorite chili, cheese dogs. One has to have a frosted orange to top that off. Hum, guess I should go back and change my ratings to 4 stars, I am... More

Substandard food, fries dry or greasy take your pick. Hotdog not even salvageable with cheese, chili and onions to convert it up. Go once to day you have been then leave it alone.

The Varsity is on the corner of Milledge Avenue and West Broad street, with a big parking lot that you can enter from either of these streets. Workers at the counter will greet you with the famous line, "What'll you have?" and then shout your order back to the kitchen. Hot dogs can be ordered plain ("naked"), or with slaw... More

I think this location is much better than the Atlanta location. We walked straight up to the cashier, gave them our orders, and received our food. Afterwards, we sat down without a wait. This NEVER happens in Atlanta! If we lived closer to this location, then we would come more often. Recommend!

My husband had never eaten here and my daughter and I were excited for him. Highly disappointed! Doesn't live up to the Varsity standards at all. No excitement in there at all. No one interacted with us at all. The food wasn't what we expected at all. Not a good experience at all.

Great southern drive-in food. The best hot dogs, chili dogs, slaw dogs that I have ever eaten. The atmosphere is very 1950's "Happy Days" drive-in cool. The peach fried pies are wonderful. If you are a vegan, don't bother, but if you enjoy good burgers, dogs and fixins southern style, the Athens Varsity can't be beat.

I sometimes get a gnawing feeling for a good chili dog with onions. It involves driving thirty miles one way but it's worth it. If you really want to pile it on.....try some onion rings fresh out of the fire. You will return, as I do. The cokes come with shaved ice, it doesn't get any better than that. Grab... More
