On game day we always pass by restaurant and decided to stop in today. Glad we did! All 4 of us got the plate which included a meat and 2 vegetables. For the sides we had mac and cheese, fried corn, potato salad, green beans and squash casserole. On the meat side we had fried porkchops, catfish and fried streak.... More

I am very lucky to live close by so I can visit any time I wish...and I come often. Good southern cooking by an award winning chef. Make sure Weaver says "automatic" for you!

Weaver D's is one of the longest serving restaurants in Athens. Its the "ultimate hole in the wall" and good meat and 3 or all veggie place around. You order your food and a server gets the food for you. Fried chicken is a hit here but I had to have the home cooked veggies and they didn't disappoint. If... More

All of the vegetables sounded good, so I had a plate of 4 and they were all fantastic as well as the cornbread. Great location near a park area and downtown, with a lot of local history.

I went to this restaurant as it famously gave it's slogan "Automatic for the People" to REM to use as the title of their album. It's much smaller than I envisaged, run by just one guy, who everyone just calls 'D' and his wife. Nearly everything is deep-fried. The menu is limited, but the service is something special. When I... More

The fried chicken here makes Bojangles chicken look like Church's chicken. I'm not a fan of Bo or Church's. I actually enjoyed the Owner Dexter Weaver not so euthiasic personality. But you can be that way when you serve chicken this good. The mac'n cheese isn't all that. Too soupy. The sweet potato casserole was delicious. The peach cobbler was... More

Nope! Sorry y'all. I have to go against the grain on this so called "legend" of Athens. Never having been there, but hearing all the hype, we went there for lunch the other day, hearing this was the #1 place in Athens to get great chicken. My observations: The mac-n-cheese was watery like a sloppy soup (no exaggeration) and tasteless.... More

Yummy, southern food. We tried the fried fish, fried chicken, collard greens, mac and cheese and all were flavorful and reminded me of my childhood. Would definitely return to try the pork chops, as they were already sold out when we visited.

Well we came just before they closed, so there wasn't much food left. We were told what to have and we had it. Chicken snacks I think they called it (fried chicken), and green beans. It was only like $5, and it was a fun change of pace.

This was recommended as a local 'must'. It was good, not great. The staff wasn't super warm and welcoming..but more of just push the customers through. Compared to other places with the southern style meat and sides concept, this was on the same level.
