The Taj Mahal is a small no frills restaurant tucked away behing the Lao Vientiane Cultural Hall. Prices are cheap although the service could be a little friendlier. As for the food - well sorry - it really disappoints. The paneer dishes are not paneer...(although to be fair the menu states in brackets that it is tofu) but even so the butter masala "paneer" was just a mush - hard to find any tofu. The alloo chat - well forget it - it bears no resemblance to the dish whatever. it should be said thst it is not difficult either to make paneer or to buy fresh yogurt these days in Vientiane. One saving grace - the garlic naan bread was good. If you are on a tight budget and have low expectations - well this is probably the cheapest "Indian" restaurant you will find in townMore
Have spent a week in Vientiane and have been to this place about four times eating different dishes. It's really tasty Indian food with a good mix of spices. The chicken also has a very delicious taste, which I think a lot of Indian restaurants...lack unfortunately.
One of the best, if not the best, Indian food I've had. For the cheap price you pay, it's more than worth the money. Another positive thing is that you get the food quickly after your order. The restaurant itself is a quite simple restaurant, but don't be fooled by the looks of the place. Highly recommend it!More
I was impressed by the reviews, so I went... My experience was quite different.. the samosas I got was served on a plate covered by a mix of sources , normally I would expect to get that on the side , my main dish with...chicken had a destink taste of tomato ketchup.. not at all what I'm used to from Indian and Pakistani food...More
A fairly small Halal Indian restaurant. Very basic but clean. No Air Conditioning. Open type with some ventilating fans. The food is nice and prices are reasonable. This is typical of all the Halal / Indian restaurants in Vientiane. They are all very basic small...food outlets rather than proper restaurants. The services are basic but the food is enjoyable.More
