Perhaps the best baklava I've had. Tonnes of variety but their original is the best. Sweet, nutty and pastry with just enough chewy sweet goodness. This cafe sells both baklava and borek (turkish cheese pastry). There is no English menu but take a look around the at the pastry and borek on display. They have signs corresponding each item so... This place has been there since 1820 and has had five generations of the same family as owners. Inside is clean and nicely decorated and you can feel the pride in the place and baklava. You pay the cashier and then give the receipt to people behind the counters and tell them what flavors you wish. We had an assortment... More

This place is mostly visited by locals. It is a cafe style joint. You can take a look at the food you will order inside, see the salads, the sweets, the meats, and make a choice. Waiters will bring it to you. I recommend tea, and not coffee at this place. And, of course, baklava! By the way, if you... More

The baklava is very fresh and available in large quantities, so they must be making a lot every day. We took some home with us to share with our colleagues and it finished very quickly, we only managed to eat a few ourselves. The place also seems to be a nice sit-down restaurant, although it was always brimming with Middle... More

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
