varied menu, competent staff and informal dining. We started with a few tapas, and moved to a couple of main courses. The burger was tasty. Disappointing wine list, in that there were few Israeli wines.

We were invited here by our Israeli friends. They like ourselves are foodies and the restaurant gave us everything we wanted from a good night of food and drink. Service was great and extremely accommodating. Menu was extensive but we mainly tried the tapas and drank some lovely international wines to compliment. Would defiantly go back next time I am... I came across this place by chance late at lunchtime and I was very pleasantly surprised! Inventive, tasteful cooking and service with a smile. I loved my Jerusalem artichoke and almond starter and the sweetbreads were yummy. So, after a few hours I came back for dinner. Sat at the bar for more amazing food. Really enjoyed the green peppers... More

We've had a dinner for two there. The food was excellent with interesting combinations. The Ikra was just a touch too salty for me, but otherwise very nice. The table a bit small, but under the watchful eyes of the head waitress, courses were timed to appear such that it would not be overfull. This also prevented a long wait... More

Excellent and mediocre. Been at HaBasta two times so far. First time food was exceptional. Second time food was just "okay". Not the most convenient restaurant to sit at. Tables are a little small and cramped and there is no air conditioning inside (eating in the heat in the summertime is no fun). Service was just "okay", not great and... More

Outstanding food, in particular fish, including oysters and raw fish, in a very pleasant position. At first sight you wouldn't bet on the choice and quality provided by this little joint. Excellent service.

A tiny table for four on a dirty and smelly pavement on Friday night, after the market merchants went home for Shabat, we expected at least great food, as promised in some enthusiastic reviews. Well, it was not great, not even mediocre. pompous dishes, overwhelmingly overpriced, some of them unbeatable. Attempts to get the indifferent staff's attention failed. The whole... More

Located next to Carmel market the restaurant offers fresh and modern food with Israeli and European influences. The dinner was definitively a treat and I liked the quality and authenticity of the dishes. My starter was a tasty salad of some sort slightly sourish Israeli Origan with almonds and the main course a delicous potato mash with a poached egg... More

The night walk through the empty streets of the market can be unpleasant, but once you get to the Basta you can take a sit outside and enjoy a cheerful dinner with fresh food and a good vibe. The menu changes according to the seasons and the food supply comes straight from the market. Dishes are not big, the idea... More

I have been to Basta numerous times during visits to Israel and have never been disappointed. This time was for a Friday lunch, with perfect late spring weather, scenery, and everything to accompany great food sitting outdoors. Situated between the Carmel Market and adjacent Nahalat Binyamin Street, keep in mind that there are no signs over this small restaurant, just... More
