About
Doctor Shakshuka is a kosher restaurant serving North-African home-style cuisine, which has many fans. Most of the cooking is done in the family kitchen by the mother of the family. The restaurant caters to private events in a unique and authentic atmosphere. Doctor Shakshuka offers the best Turkish shawarma made of thin slices of lamb with minced lamb meat in between, skewered on one huge spit, in his new shawarma place (same location).

we wanted to take a relative from US to have a good shakshuka so we went to this place that has a good reputation, and the disappointment was big.
we were a party of 4 (+baby) so we ordered 2 Shakshuka, one with eggplant and the other with mushrooms. Since one of the guests dos not eat tomatoes we ordered an omelet with greens .
the 2 shakshuka were ok but very ordinary and it was clear that the tomatoes were cooked before and upon order were heated and eggs added.
and then the blow came....
they charge 81 Shekels for a shakshuka and, sit tight, 72 Shekels for an omelet !!!
if you do not order a Shakshuka they also charge 48 Shekels for a few salads and bread that they serve
the bottom line is that this is an overpriced place for very ordinary food
i will not go there again

Good welcome and friendly staff. Got a pic with the owner who was lovely but that’s the positives. Food was exceptionally low quality. Paid 450ILS for 5 people and worst shakshuka and lamb shawarma ever. The shawarma was definitely from the day before with extremely dry bits and tomato base for the shakshuka was not freshly made. Having spoken with locals afterwards they said it is a real tourist trap. What a disappointment as we were so looking forward to it especially after watching Somebody feed Phil on Netflix. Worst meal we had in Israel!

The shakshuka is still tasty. That said, the service, prices and the way they try to sell you dessert and other salads be in an insincere, fake friendly fashion is a put-off. Try shakshuka somewhere else and give this place a pass.

Avoid this tourist trap. They are dishonest and overcharge for subpar food.
Eviten este lugar turístico. No vale la pena y discriminen a turistas!
When I arrived, they only gave me and my partner the green “business menu” & recommended the meal for 87 NIS. For those who eat small serving sizes, this is not a good deal.
But I saw that others received two menus: a green one and a pink menu. The pink menu had smaller items ranging fro 30-60 NIS.
When I asked the waiter, the man in black first said pink menu was a “Lunch” menu and no longer available at 3pm. I had no reason to doubt this. But then I saw other guests arrive and receive both menus again.
When I confronted the waiter a second time, he was unapologetic and belligerent. He said I should have asked for two menus. None of the waiters admitted their mistake.
In what world would restaurant patrons ask for two types of menus? Unbelievable that the waiter would lie and not even bother covering up his lie about a “lunch” and “dinner” menu.

Man wird gleich am Eingang quasi genötigt das Lokal zu betreten. Am Tisch wird einem dann ein Shakshuka Menü empfohlen. Das Shakshuka ist zwar gut, aber der Service ist es nicht. Man wird wirklich bedrängt etwas zu nehmen, was man vielleicht garnicht will.
Already in front of the restaurant you are more or less forced to enter. As soon as you sit at the table, you are adviced to order rather a Shakshuka menu. The Shakshuka is okay, but the service is not. You really feel like you have to order something. And this can be even something, you don't really want. The dishes are for sure already half ready, because you get it very fast. When I said, that I had finished, there was no more need to bring me the included dessert and coffee. Instead I received the bill to which they automatically added the tips, which is to my mind not okay.
My advice: rather not.

I don’t recommend. The food is ok but you can buy Shakshuka anywhere. Please be aware that if anyone in your table didn’t order anything, that person will be charged 35 INS because you had lemonade which comes as a pitch no matter how many people you have.
We are 2 people and ordered one person portion Shakshuka, they charged us the actual amount of 69INS and 35 INS for the other person who didn’t order. We asked why, and they said because you drunk the lemonade too (but that comes as a pitch anyways).
We said nothing because apparently they think it’s our problem for ordering for one person and didn’t understand the menu. I don’t like they way they mess around and fool us. I also don’t think this is fair if anyone in the table decided not to order but being charged because of drinking the water from the same table (it was bad anyways)
I wouldn’t recommend anyone to come.

We went for dinner at 6:30 PM. we were surprised we were the only people in the restaurant. We immediately got the business meal menu without the usual menu. after asking for it - we got it. I call it a hard sale.
The business meal included an assortment of salads. They were bad. We also got half a cup of lemonade.
The shakshuka was nice, but has seemed to have deteriorated since its hey day.
Service was very eager to sell - less so to serve. It was tough to find a waiter for drinks.
The most disappointing part was the presence of Bino the owner who didnt seem to care about his customers.
We paid 120 shekel a person for a below average meal with horrible service.
Highway robbery.
Needless to say - i wont be back.

The moment we sat, we were given only the set menus, no ala carte. Food was nothing special. When waiter computed our bill, he overpriced us 140 ILS. He added 100 ILS to the set menus we ordered and topped it off with a 40 ILS service charge. We were refunded in the end but cashier didn't even questioned our bill when I was paying. I don't think this is just a mistake in computation.

Dr Shakshuka is a very well known restaurant which has a Kosher certificate. Most customers sit at the area at the back, which is rather shabby. Not all plates were clean but we kind of overlooked that trying not to be fussy. Four of us went there. The waiter kind of promoted the set menu implying that its was ALL for 120 shekel. Looking at the state of the place I thought it is a very reasonable price and we said yes. Unfortunately we did not check the menu for the price and didn't ask either. They charged four people for 630 shekel all together. My beer had a slimy thing in it and they changed it but the food was not too bad. Each of us paid 175 shekel. I would never go there again unless I was too desperate to find a place to eat. When we went there to pay they said that their POS did not work and suggested we use their ATM. Knowing that private ATMs can be used to scam more people I insisted to go to a bank. The bank was not nearby so then he told me to wait and that in five minutes the POS would be fine! And magically it was!

Used to love this place, had a great selection of different types of shakshouka. Now they shove a set menu in your face and press you to eat everything but a great shakshouka. Was not impressed with the £60 price tag for two people. What a shame that squeezing money out of tourists has destroyed a great Jaffa tradition.

it was the worst restaurant I went to with my family in Israel. unrealistically expensive. We ordered 3 servings of meat, but there was only one or two of the many meats. they said the beer was included in the menu price, but it was still charged. I would not recommend it to anyone. the 3 menus cost $ 220 so we got bad food with plastic cups in a dirty place.

The food was edible, but nothing special: your average shakshuka that you can get everywhere in an outside Israel. The service, on the other hand, was terrible. They started by trying to rip us off by giving us a different menu after sitting down than the one they showed as at the entrance. Of course, the latter one had much higher prices as it only listed the "house specials". Before we even had time to look at it they started packing unappealing looking salads on our table as if we had already ordered one of these specials. When we insisted on choosing from the menu they showed us at first, all artificial smiles disappeared in an instant and they became mean.

The only good thing of this place is probably the fancy interior design. The food was very low quality, they only have five imposed menus which are extremely overpriced. We went there thinking to taste the best shakshuka ever and we came out really disappointed. Not a friendly environment. Its a typical tourist trap and unfortunately we fell into it…NOT suggested at all.

Tourist trap - on a main street, fancy interior, thats it. The menu includes basically 2 options, you ask for water, they bring cheapest lemonade, the salad served was probably from yesterday. The waiter starts talking to women (if they want or not) on the street, female guests - and your wife, while you‘re on the toilet.
There are many other, better restaurants to go.

Tried Dr Shaksuka on the recommendation of a friend in the US. I told them about the recommendation and was given two small dishes of couscous and spicy potatoes to try. Had the mixed salad and the aubergine shaksuka. Both were absolutely delicious and the staff were warm and friendly.
After reading the reviews below,I can confirm they gave the a la carte menu and not a fixed one .
