I was introduced to this place by some Korean friends. Together with some favourite appetisers, tried the Korean rice beer to start which was nice and really something new. Then we had three very traditional mains, the beef short ribs, the raw crab and the spicy pork, and the dried fish soup (similar to bacalao) all very good comfort food.... More

See the Official Visit Korea website. This place closed down. We looked all over for it in the rain until we discovered this. Fortunately there are some cool bars and neighborhoods nearby. I think we eventually found, after walking around, a nook with AWESOME restaurants and cocktail bars ("Old-Fashioned").

I had a good time in Wolhyang. They have so many kind of Makgeolli made from all over Korea, and I really liked their house Makkgeolli, 'Wolhyang'.

In a word, Yummy place! Very best place to have Korean real taste. You can enjoy Korean traditional rice wine (Makgeolli) w/ variety of real Korean dishes. Have a fun with your dears. ;)

Came here with a friend to drink malkeolli and eat side dishes. Food was not memorable, but the chestnut makkeolli is divine~! I've been here a couple times, and the standout makkeolli flavour is chestnut. A good place to go earlier on in the evening. Easy to talk with friends and enjoy th3 taste and buzz of the rice wine... This restaurant is small and cozy. The ambiance is very good. The staffs are really friendly, and are able to speak fluent Japanese and English. The makgeolli there is home brew and you can ask the staff to recommend one that suits your taste. The makgeolli is really fragrant, a totally whole new level than the ones that are store... More

Staying in Hongdae

Neighbourhood Profile
Carefree enthusiasm is everywhere in this energetic neighborhood centered on Hongik University, Korea’s top art school. From its assortment of murals to the occasional amateur street performances, creativity and expression make up the wild and beating heart of vibrant Hongdae. At the Free and Hope Market (weekends at the Hongdae Children’s Playground) you'll find one of Seoul’s most popular handmade and creative markets drawing consistent crowds. At Hongdae, there’s never a shortage of things to do and see; food and drink options are nearly endless as are shops and noraebang (karaoke) rooms. Hongdae is also one of Seoul’s top party and club scenes catering to a younger demographic; if a packed club isn’t your scene, you'll also find a range of music venues and bars offering live music in all genres. Although Hongdae has lost much of its unique appeal and undergone rapid commercialization in recent years, be sure to explore Hongdae’s edges in areas such as Sangsu-dong and Yeonnam-dong where Hongdae’s fiercely independent streak still runs freely.
