When it comes to mainland cooking, striving for quality and flavor is a losing battle against the average Chinese persons palette. Drum and Gong, arguably among the best restaurants in China, is yet another example of this. Some of our favorite dishes were the spicy chicken and black bean skillet, the sweet potato fries with Thai sauce, and the Szechuan... More

We went to the address of the restaurant, it had the same sign and the drum and gong in the window as the pictures from other reviews, but it is now a food court with various different food offerings. Not sure what happened but it does not appear to be the restaurant that was described in the other reviews.

Favorite restaurant in the hutong area, if not Beijing, good value for money. Good enough, repeated several times over the week. EXTENSIVE menu (with pictures), allow time to study. Can get crowded, especially on a weekend. With a PRC friend (who also was very pleased), so language not an issue (pointing works). Ate several times in main room (nice), once... More

My wife and I ate there on our first night in Beijing. It may have been an off night for the restaurant. First caveat is we don't speak any Chinese and the waitress did not speak any English. As we were trying to make up our mind which dish we wanted, we asked questions about 3 dishes, intending to pick... More

I went to this place based on tripadvisor reviews and I wasn't disappointed. It's only a short walk from the nanluoguxiang subway station. I would recommend taking some time to walki around the nearby hutongs, which are bustling and crammed with all kinds of shops and eateries. The food and service were pretty decent, and definitely felt like a good... More

My son in law and I were on a business trip and stayed at the Hans Royal Garden hotel just round the corner from this rstaurant which was recommended by the hotel staff. Set in a very lively shopping street we managed to get a table on the roof top patio which recommended. Very busy popular place but the service... More

I read pretty good reviews so I went to this place. I feel most people payed attention to the terrace, but if you don't get a spot on the terrace the place is ok. I got 2 dishes the sichuan duck and chicken with celery and cashew nuts. The duck had an unexpected nice crisp and smoky flavor, but it... More

Stumbled upon this place and was not disappointed. We were seated on the rooftop terrace on a warm Beijing evening, and enjoyed some nice breezes and very good food. Our Chinese was very limited so the menu with pictures was very helpful. For a very touristy area, the food and prices were very good, in our opinion. Good selection of... More

Found this restaurant on tripadvisor and so glad we tried it out. We sat out on the top terrace overlooking the street. The staff were incredibly friendly. Though they didn't speak much English, the menus had English translations. Food was great with lots of choice and would go back given the chance.
