I have visited Hometown Teahouse on Cheung Chau while living in Hong Kong, and when visiting intermittently, since 1997. The red bean cakes are simply fantastic and the welcome from "my Japanese lady" warm and wonderful. Always a pleasure to visit. Relax and enjoy this unique and magic corner of that lovely island.

This place is a bit of an institution - there are queues for the sushi. The set 'menu' is tea, red bean paste buns served hot and sushi rolls. My wife and I had already eaten lunch and anyhow do not eat pork or shellfish so we asked for tea and buns only. It was a really hot day so... More

Great sushi rolls... and Red Bean Paste Buns! Get off the ferry, grab a roll and sit by the ocean. Great proprietor!

Very tasty, very hospitable, such a warm welcome and interesting conversation, but most importantly extremely testy food and good tea! We will be back soon!!!

We had a nice day on the island until we met the owner (the Japanese old lady) of Hometown Teahouse. We marked it as a must-go from the reviews on TripAdvisor, and we definitely did ignored the only "Poor“ marked review from Santawang. However, it turns out it's necessary to warn visitors the potential poor service you might encounter from... More

I nearly missed this shop. It was like hidden beside a food shop selling noodles and I saw the signboard and it rang a familiar bell. I tried their soft red bean pancakes. U definitely need to have them while they're hot. Once cold, not nice I managed to have tea inside the restaurant as well. The strange rule was... More

A friend (who lives locally in Kowloon) rec'd this place to try in Cheung Chau. It's very popular & crowded as it has been written up by Frommers & NYTimes. It is just a couple of blocks off the main path from the swimming beach. There is a walk-up window where you can order snacks. They are famous for their... More

I grew up on Cheung Chau, I've known The Yoshino couple (owners) since I was a tot, and I've been hooked on their sushi my whole 22 years, so my review would technically be biased as I'm a friend. But still, there is no denying that their sushi is just so damn good and the service is unmatched. While Mr... More

A must visit if you go to Cheung Chau is the Japanese teahouse. Yes, you read that right, it is called Hometown Tea House and is run by a Japanese lady, Takahiko-san, who has lived in Hong Kong for 28 years. I am not sure how many years the Tea House has been there but it was a delightful place... More
