Alright so I’ve been staying in Hong Kong for quite some time now and this is always a place I would recommend my friends when they come over to visit me. I mean, they’re pretty popular themselves online for a good reason as well. In...general the food is affordable and so much tastier than what some of the local cafes can offer. Although it has become such a tourist hotspot, you’re not going to find yourself missing out of the typical Hong Kong service attitude. So if you’re looking out for a true local experience, don’t sweat it. In fact, one of my friend was a little traumatized over it, it was pretty hilarious but of course I feel for her. She had heard about how rude restaurants staffs can be in Hong Kong but she had never lived through the moment till I brought her there. For all the tourists, I’d say brace yourself for rude waiters/waitresses but you can expect a great meal at this local joint. They specialize in Macaroni Soup, Scrambled Eggs and Steamed Egg Pudding so be sure not to miss those out. Although, quite a few of my friends does find that the French Toast is pretty good as well. My favourite would be the scrambled egg. Although it is indeed a simple dish, it’s definitely not one that’s easy to master to get the texture right for everyone they serve so that’s really amazing! The scrambled egg was really creamy and you can really taste a strong buttery flavour that basically just melts right after it sits on your tongue. They often have a lunch menu for the entire set with for the Macaroni, Scrambled Eggs & Toast with a drink. It comes in slightly different variations but I always stick to this and get a glass of iced milk tea. Anyways since they have a pretty limited menu, you can expect that you’ll get consistent efforts in each one of them which is what I love the most. That’s also how they have such a quick turnover rate as most people wouldn’t take longer than half an hour in there to finish up considering your food is going to be served pretty much instantaneously after you’ve order. While keeping up to the pace of people coming in and out, here’s what literally shocked my friend, we were seated right beside the area where they have bins to compile all the dishes before it gets sent to wash. The waiter threw the dish from a distance & it ended up in the bin with a loud thud & that caught my friend off guard, she literally jumped from that it was hilarious! Well, can’t really defend them that much as that’s definitely not an action of great customer service but honestly it might also just be because they’re really busy most of the time. On some visits, they would joke with me or even chat me up a bit. Not just because I often visit them, but I’ve seen it on the others too. Lastly, for the dessert I’d highly recommend their famous Steamed Milk Pudding, really silky smooth yet custardy at the same time, best enjoyed hot. Overall, the café basically serves the typical breakfast food you can get in most places, but you’ll never quite find a place that executes it in such a manner. Honestly the eggs are just so damn addictive. You’ll always want to go back for more. Anyways to close up on what my friend was traumatized about, the cashier lady threw our change on the table. Although this is actually something to be expected as well in most cases except with a loud slam instead. She loved the food, but I guess that was a really scary experience for her. We had a good laugh in the end so all’s good. Sad to say it’s part of the culture but with the amount of customers they get every day, you’ll understand why they’re still so popular. The key to their success, is the glorious eggs.More
