I head read the reviews here on Tripadvisor and went there for breakfast. I guess I was lucky as there were only 2 persons in the queue. I don't know what I was expecting based on the reviews but for sure not this. The porridge was boiling hot and smelled weird and the chicken was tasteless. This was my first... More

I know I know, there usually is a long queue at this place. But if you are a tourist, time yourself to be there at just after 9 AM. I was there this morning, and I was first in a queue of one. :) But seriously, if you Want porridge in Singapore, don't miss this stall. Trust me, I ordered... More

The queue is usually long and many tourists trying out at this stall in Maxwell market. The porridge is generous with the ingredients. Though it is popular, the standard maintained.

Of course when I go to Singapore I need to visit this place for some congee. However this time it was a bit salty but it was still a satisfying experience. A tip is the sizing was really generous so if you are not a big eater then the small one is actually very big already.

Often, I choose century egg & minced pork or frog legs. Always satisfy my cravings for porridge. Generous helping of spring onion & fried garlic. However, the kitchen is rather unkempt and in dire need for a renovation.

I personally don't find anything particularly special about this porridge. Its alright, but not worth queuing for. Perhaps I ordered the wrong dish? Had the fish porridge and they weren't very generous with it. Furthermore, there were tiny bones in my porridge. It wasn't a very pleasant meal. No doubt, the porridge is flavourful and cheap, but I wouldn't queue... More

With all the rave about the porridge I went to Maxwell Food Court. It was on weekdays around 2pm, but I waited for 45 mins before getting my porridge. To be honest, the queue is not that long, but its just slow. I watched other stall with longer queue but moved faster. The porridge tasted good though, but not sure... More

Zhen Zhen porridge is well known among the locals for serving the best value for money and best tasting porridge in Singapore. The $4 portion is choke full of ingredients whether it is the minced pork or fish porridge that you ordered. Almost everyone will order an extra plate of yusheng or raw fish to go with the porridge. It's always long queue for this stall on the weekend (not too sure if it's the same for weekdays)....best to avoid 9-11am as the queuing time can be as long as an hour to an hour and half. The store close in the afternoon till the next working day. Their porridge is very smooth. If you eat raw fish, it... More

have been going to them for years! They just raised the price after the food court renovated. Not a lot of increase, still below market price. Poor old folks hovering over the stove deserve the increase. Their fish salad also very good. Keep supporting them! But beware the queues!

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown is a classic combination of colourful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
