The service was excellent as was the food. We were pleased with all the dishes on the tasting menu and the Guinea Pig done three ways was extremely delicious. The smoked duck preparation was one of the best I have ever tasted. It had a...pepperoni umaminess that made it irresistible. The prices for food and wine were remarkably reasonable. Zazu is a definite foodie destination in Quito.More
I recently planned a dinner here for my boyfriend's birthday. They saw it in the notes from my reservation and greeted him from the moment we walked in.
The service is excellent. The staff is very attentive and will make sure you have a nice...visit. There was also a complimentary dessert for the birthday with a candle. :)
My only concern is that they were out of half of the menu. The first 4 things we wanted to order... they didn't have. I wish we could have had the full Zazu experience but it was still a very nice evening.More
As an airline crew member, finding a friendly restaurant with great food is a must in a foreign city. In 10 trips to Quito, i had yet to find such a place that I enjoyed, until this trip to Zazu. Camilla and Bibi were knowledgeable...and fun, and Camilla especially spoke great English. Of course, they didn't mind letting us practice our Spanish as well.
For appetizers, we had the Grilled Cauliflower and Pork Taquitos, both of which were fresh, hot, and very flavorful. Dinner was Seabass for my friend and a wonderful sliced piece of beef for me, with a great Bernaise sauce. While the food was wonderful, the charming Camilla probably made the evening the most enjoyable. Will definitely return!!More
We had an amazing dinner at Zazu. We only tried the vegetarian options (appetizers and entrees) and they were all excellent. Our server Anthony (plus all other staff) was super nice and efficient. I would definitely recommend!
We had a phenomenal evening at Zazu. We opted for the tasting menu which started with an Andean salad full of bright citric flavors, followed by a lovely crab appetizer with sweet and acid tones, a really interesting take on seabass ceviche, then a wonderfully...smoked octopus with an umami sauce, a one-bite egg yolk transition, and a duck dish with a creamy local potato puree. The menu ended with a wonderful cacao-based dessert with rosemary icecream. Service was top notch. Camila did an amazing job at explaining the dishes and the rest of the team was always attentive without being invasive. Don't miss out on this Quito gem! During current Covid19 curfew restrictions in Quito, you should reserve for 6-6:15pm in order to enjoy all courses at a reasonable pace and be done before the curfew begins at 8pm. They offered a cab service at the end of dinner. Be aware that "servicio" on the bill does not mean tip, so you should tip separately and be mindful that cash is always preferred by servers in Ecuador.More
Had the tasting menu along with the soup, pulled pork and short ribs. everything was perfect. each plate was beautifully presented. anthony was a very good server as well. the ecuadorian carbernet/malbec (dos hemisferios) was surprisingly good too.
We recently had one of the best meals ever at Zazu. Camila was our server and she was perfect. The right amount of availability without being intrusive. We enjoyed everything we tried, but would like to specifically mention the cauliflower app, as it was outstanding....The ambience was wonderful. Our favorite meal of this South America trip!!More
Zazu is an amazing restaurant, made even better by the fantastic service. Viviana & Camila took care of us throughout the meal. They were most courteous & attentive, exceptionally knowledgeable about the menu, and essential in helping us out with ordering. They made us feel...very special and valued. To begin with, the restaurant has a preset menu with some items that were not part of the general fare. However, it turned out that we could freely order any of the items we liked.
The food taste and presentation were superior. In the beginning of the meal, we were served an amuse-bouche of roasted cauliflower in aji sauce, it was delicious and very pretty. The house bread was warm and fresh, served with a bit of whipped butter For starters we ordered Foie Gras and Ceviche de Pescado. The foie gras was fried duck liver, which is uncommon even in France (usually, it is basically cold sliced pate). It was absolutely marvelous, perfectly cooked to a medium rare, with just the right flavoring as to not to take away from the natural taste, it was served with a little mash of eggplant? with a bit of sauté onion and sauce, the mash had a bit of sharp taste. The ceviche was served in a very unusual way, it was thinly slied corvina sashimi style, over pink sauce (a bit gelatinous), crunches & buttons of yellow sauce. Viviana explained to us what everything was, but we were so entranced with the way the dish looked, that unfortunately, I forgot what she said…
For the main course, we had Jackson Pollack fish of the day and Duck Confit. We were somewhat confused about the fish dish, but it all became quite clear once it arrived to the table. It actually looked like a piece of modern art and tasty one too! The fish was corvina, very nice thick piece, that was, again, perfectly cooked. It was moist and juicy, the mixture of the sauces was very interesting and the crunches of mixed grains that accompanied the fish were very good. We ordered a side of mashed potatoes in addition to the hot plates, and it turned out to be a great choice, because we could dip the potatoes in the sauce. The Duck Confit was very good, generally we prefer a duck breast, but the leg was very tasty in sweet sauce with veggies.
We really enjoyed our meal at Zazu. We wish that we have discovered it a little earlier during our stay, so that we would have time to visit it again, but I guess, we will have to come back to Quito for it.More

We had dinner at Zazu in February and were highly impressed. The food is inventive and playful (we loved the riff on Jackson Pollack for our pollack dish), and also absolutely delicious. The staff are attentive and very professional. The space is very cool, and...we really appreciated that tables were spaced far apart given the pandemic. Our only regret is that we didn't have time to try the tasting menu - next time!More
