Our tour operator advised this restaurant to us, because we really love gastronomy. We went there for a lunch and also had the chance to go to the local market with the owner/head chef, Pio. He showed us around the market and let us taste many different local products. After we walked around the market for some time and got... More

On a family trip with 18 people, ranging in age from 13-83, we're sometimes hard pressed to find an accommodating restaurant. El Huacatay, named after the local mint that appears in many dishes, was fantastic and first-rate Peruvian food. We were greeted with Pisco Sours for those of drinking age and juice for the rest. We had a three-course prix... More

Look, I don't know if it's possible to have an olive hangover, but be careful. They bring them out to start the dinner and they're so good you just might binge and then it's all over after that. To put it simply, if the olives are that damn good, imagine the rest of the menu. So if you find yourself... More

Nice setting but we did not enjoy our food much. Plating was nice but flavor was not right. We got the shrimp dish and shrimp with pasta. Shrimp in the main dish were tiny and sauce too sweet. Pasta didn't taste so great either.

Ate here for lunch at the recommendation of our tour guide. Without any pre conceptions ( we had expected a sandwich lunch on the day!) we had an excellent set sharing menu which was of the highest quality in terms of presentation , ingredients and flavours. It was also suitably light leaving you nicely satisfied but full of energy for... More

Describing the food as "average" is a generous statement. Can't quite place what was wrong, but the flavors just were not well balanced. A little sad that an alpaca had to die to become the carpaccio...I was not impressed.

I am an adventurist eater that loves trying the local cuisine but I can't handle too much spice. The food served at El Huacatay was delicious and fresh with a beautiful presentation. I was nervous about trying the alpaca carpaccio as it is raw meat, but it was exceptional and nothing to be concerned about getting sick from eating. The... More

Had lunch here during our recent trip to Peru. We arrived early around noon, not knowing they didn't actually open for lunch until 1:30. One of the staff realized we were outside and kindly invited us in around 1230 to wait on a comfortable sofa inside. (we don't speak Spanish so we weren't sure what time they opened) It was... More

I had no idea where or what to expect. The bus dropped us off, on another street, as the streets are too narrow for a bus to navigate. We walked up, what seemed to be an alley, through a door/gate, into a lush garden. We followed the path and entered the door into the restaurant. There were only a few... More
