I give it 3 points because the employees are nice and the ambience is "authentic" (whatever that means). But by all means, you get better meat at better prices elsewhere... so, if you're not into seeking the (really jolly and nice!) atmosphere of Mercado del Puerto, there are not really loads reasons to come to this place

I have to say that I had great expectations here. The service was great and the menu looked really encouraging. But the barbecued meat for which all these restaurants are famous was incredibly average

Seafood is plentiful in Uruguay, but the locals don't seem to consume it! Instead it's meat, meat, meat at ubiquitous parillas -- good enough to be sure, but gets monotonous after a while. This place has grilled meats too, of course, and in fact the tray of mixed sausages and other meat cuts was fine, but mainly I had a... More

Excellent location, at the old harbor market! Interesting iron construction from the beginning of the last century. A must see when in Montevideo. Very lively place full of meat bars. Meat barbecued in front of you! A meat lovers paradise! For vegetarians they have veggie pastas, veggie filled delicious raviolis and spaghetti with fresh separately grilled(not the same grill where... More

The asado on offer was a real treat. Sitting at the bar counter for lunch stimulated the appetite and meant a fuller dining experience. The waiting staff and chefs are more than happy to make recommendations. Give this place a try.

I guess this is a typical upscale parrilla. We were a group of ten and asked to be served a variety of food. It was virtually all meat: beef, sausages, pork, lamb, sweetbreads, etc. That's the way it is in Uruguay. The meats were good and the service was more than adequate. My wife, who doesn't eat red meat, ordered... More

If you want to experience the great love affair South Americans have with beef then this is the place to visit. It is situated in the markets and consequently is very alive and vibrant.. We sat at the counter and ordered steaks and beer - what a feast. The steaks are cooked on a huge open barbeque and were perfectly... More

Best restaurant in the Mercado. Open fires cooking all sorts of meat and fish. Good selection of wines and beers and an excellent menu. We had an excellent meal here. Staff are great too!

We really enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the chefs do their thing on the large grill at El Palenque. Who knew you could grill all those things? Our steak and chicken kabob were perfect and we'd go back again if we had more time there. The restaurant is part of a larger area of restaurants and shops but... More

This place was recommended to us by a local we met on the bus, and although the price wasn't cheap, it was an amazing meal. The waiter was very friendly, gave us all the information we needed and time to choose. The "asado de tira" (beef rib) and fries were good, but our favorite was the catch of the day,... More
