We dropped in at The Federal unexpectedly and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was creative and excellent, the service was wonderful and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. All four of us had an enjoyable meal and would recommend this restaurant.

We were disappointed. The Mac and cheese was limp and bland and the short rib was dry. The quail was tasty but overcooked and dry. The bacon wrapped figs were non-descript, but might have really popped with a balsamic reduction. The asparagus was overcooked, but...More

My favorite restaurant. Love the bucket of balls, short ribs and Nutella crepe. Lanagrace be when they add a pork chop to the menu. Have enjoyed Christmas celebrations and Thanksgiving. ❤️

This is a special restaurant for special times. Food and service are outstanding, though slightly expensive by local standards [not by Boston prices], you get what you pay for. Its a good value. My wife started with the Risotto balls, which she shared... Excellent. I...More

I've eaten here a few times wearing just jeans and a polo or a button down. Dress runs the gamut from suits/ties to casual. Just depends on the party. But you won't be uncomfortable being a little more than casual.

Description
Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure at 135 cooper street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936. Under the management of its owners, the Moretti family, that establishment remained a premiere restaurant for over fifty years. The Federal’s current owners Michael Presnal and Ralph Santaniello easily integrate the white linen elegance of that bygone era with a fresh and innovative “new American” cuisine that is perfectly prepared and impeccably served. Strong Italian and French influences inspire the contemporary culinary style of chef Presnal in dishes such as his red beet risotto, burnt tangerine glazed cod, and white-chocolate panna cotta. The Federal is dressed up as a special occasion restaurant, but is sociable and affordable enough for every occasion. The restaurant enjoys a dedicated following of appreciative diners from New York to Boston.
