The high horse is a decent place to get a drink (mostly beer) and a meal in downtown Amherst; very close walking distance to the Lord Jeffery Inn. I went there on my first night in town in search of a late-night beer and found myself in the upstairs bar. It has a good atmosphere and good drink prices. Two... More

Came in a group of four during the week, and the place was quite empty - so not a great atmosphere. A number of items on the menu were 'not available', and surprisingly a few beers were not available either. The food was fine - not great, but not terrible either. The service was not good - slow and very... More

I would have given it a lower rating, but not possible. We came on a Saturday night, which one expects to be busy and service a bit slower, but. We were seated, waited 10 minutes for our server to offer us drinks (not horrible). We then ordered our dinners. After waiting for 45 minutes, we were notified that the kitchen... More

Have been there several times with my grandchildren and daughter and son-in-law - variety of food items, good bar.

I've been to High Horse many times through my four years at UMass. I personally have always enjoyed their food, pretty standard pub feel. Good burgers, salads, sandwiches (My personal favorite is the blackened salmon), and overall a very cool hipster vibe. Although a bit pricey in my opinion for the fairly standard food options compared to other places. There... More

Awful. Greasy fries, burnt from the bottom of the barrel. Mushy veggie burger with no flavor. Clam chowder w/bacon (weird) and it tasted bitter, sour and smoky. Tomato soup was like it was tomatoes in a blender and heated up. Watery, odd. I won't go back. Skip it. Dark atmosphere. Waitress didn't offer a refund, or replacement or anything at... More

Solid food and good drinks. Menu is an interesting mix - some traditional bar food and some more unusual things like Moroccan meatballs. Service as good, not stellar. Nice atmosphere. Would go there again.

I went with friends on a night with live music. The beer was cold which is always a good thing. The space, however, does not allow for you to sit and watch the band play. The bouncer kept having to ask patrons to take their drinks off the pool table which is fair, but there was nowhere else to put... More

I have been here three times in the last month and each time was amazed at the poor service. Bartenders took my order and started eating in my view before retrieving it, and this was not a single instance! Another time a meal was forgotten until 45 minutes after the rest of us had been served, and the restaurant is... More

Good food, noisy with college-town atmosphere - comfortable variety of seating (bar, tables, quiet corners). Good selection of beers, good food, good service. All in all, pretty good - a little higher priced than I expect as this one stands out as a more special place to take your college kid when visiting.
