Ate lunch there. i ate a lot of fish stew and soups and the Esmeralda might have been the best. Probably 2/3 of the menu would be what i could call bar food, but they make it well. Right on the main commercial street, very convenient. Often crowded with locals but if you are in Nuuk for a few days, eat at least a lunch or dinner there.

The restaurant itself is popular with locals and tourists alike. It's more of a fast food place in the evenings, but in the mornings and at lunchtimes it offers great breakfasts or even brunch for absolutely fair prices. Huge portions, everything fresh, varied and authentic. Super friendly service. Centrally located.

This place is really nice, we visited twice.
First time, lunch and the food and staff ate great. It is busy here, price is reasonable and the portion size is also reasonable.
We came back the best day for a quick drink and snack, and while we enjoyed the drinks and snacks, the staff just let customers treat the cafe like their own homes, it was crazy. A lady had 3 small kids under the age of probably 4, crawling up and down the stairs. running on the upstairs seating area and letting them play hide and seek under the tables. It is a place of business and people are there to eat, drink and socialise...but it was like sitting in a crèche and the staff did nothing to control the situation at all, and it was quite busy as well.

When you go, which you should, order at the counter and pay, then sit down. Otherwise no one will show you the ropes. Once the food comes, you’ll be glad you’re there. We had lovely seafood salads and the people around us all had lovely looking food - fresh, green, colourful, creative. Our salads with shrimp, salmon and scallops was delicious. Nice vibe in the place and we’ll go back for sure!

I have been to Cafe Esmeralda in October 2019 and November 2023, and both visits there were quite nice. The food and the service is excellent, with a wide variety of items on the menu. I was there with a chef from the hotel I was staying at. We both had a very good time there. Elaine Pavone, Longwood, Florida-U.S.A.-PS- 5th trip to Greenland.

Nice and easy Café
I had one of their sandwiches. My colleague had soup. Both options were healthy and fresh. The portions were big, but not too big. Food was served quick. We were left to ourselves. All in all fair price, not that cozy, great place for lunch.

This was my go-to restaurant in Nuuk. Nice, large burgers and tasty food. The place was rather noisy, but mostly because it was full of customers every time.

Cafe Esmeralda serves classical cafe food - a bit expensive (as everything else in Nuuk) and uninspiring. Go there for a quick meal not for the food experience.

This café was very clean brightly lit and had a good atmosphere . I had the polar shrimp sandwich and wife had the smoked salmon sandwich and they were outstanding they were really really large so make sure you’re hungry when you go in there if you order the sandwiches , the service was excellent

One of my favourite restaurants in Nuuk. Have a nice menu with the best fish soup in town. The portions are big and the personal very nice and friendly. The brunch in the weekends is were the locals go.

This restaurant was recommended to me by one of the locals and I'm glad I tried it. It's conveniently located in the center of town. The atmosphere is simple but the food is wonderful. I started out with a bowl of seafood chowder. It was the largest bowl I've ever been served in a restaurant and it was the most delicious seafood chowder I've ever had. The chowder was creamy with chunks of seafood and a great selection of herbs to make it flavorful. I had a chicken sandwich with salad and potatoes and the presentation was awesome. I wish I had my camera to take a photo. The portion of food was very large so come with a big appetite. The sandwich and sides were also delicious and flavorful.
