We went there because we heard we had to try it while in Antigua. This is a local place not too much advertised. There is just a small sign in the small store offering "el menu del dia" for 20Q (3$US). To get to the "comedor" you have to go behind the store counter and you will get in a... More

"A hole in the wall if there ever was one, this eatery behind a 'mom and pop' store consists of just two tables." Lonely Planet We actually managed to ferret out 2 more tables (total of 4) in the court yard. Food was okay and plentiful. Ladies were very quiet, almost shy, when we were there, but very accommodating. Glad... More

You enter the shop and go behind the counter to find the restaurant. Nearby a parrot sits free of its' cage commenting on all and sundry. You might get two choices for food chicken /beef, both will be cheap, hearty and tasty. Fresh avocado and bread served too. Everyone greets everyone. I loved it. No it wouldn't be for everyone.... La Canche its an iconic and historical site of Barrio La Merced, some of the recipes go back more than 4 generations, I got to share the Family's table, was looking for the real taste of Guatemala's most celebrated dishes like Pepian and was amazing!. I got there as a stranger, I left as Family.

A cute little behind the store restaurant. The little old ladies are absolutely adorable and very accommodating. If your a backpacker looking to try the local food, look no further. The food is pretty good but the atmosphere is great. You'll feel like you're at your grandmother's for dinner

We tried pepian and rellenito here. Both tasted average but very filling. The dining area is dark and you share a big table with the rest of the diners. Although the people who run the place are friendly.

If you are a traveller and not a tourist, this ia your place. Inside a shop, a big table with bad illumination brings you the local experience. This place wouldn't pass the higienic exams in Europe, but the food is delicious. The "waitresses" are unique and pintoresc, and while I was there, several local families came in to show this... As the reviewer before me said, "it's not everyone's cup of tea." Although I have eaten here on several occasions, my wife wasn't particularly thrilled with this comedor. To be honest, I remember it being better than it was today. Still, the pepián con pollo was good, but not spectacular. Since learning how to make a pepián sauce, I now... More

I would say this place is not for everyone. You have to be CULTURALLY adventurous as well as a culinary adventurer. You have to go through a very small convenience store (a Teinde in Guatemala), past the counter, into their back room where the communal tables & kitchen is. Oh yeah, TRIP ADVISOR's address is incomplete and it's mapping software... More

The scene inside the restaurant (which is through the entrance of the tienda) is awesome. I felt that I am eating the home-made food cooked by this motherlike women who probably run this place. I read about this place on trip advisor and other websites. I had to give this place a try. I am so glad I overcame my... More
