We had a double room with a small balcony overlooking the small terraced area that has chairs and sun brolly. The room was clean and the bathroom had a large walk-in shower. A small hotel situated well for exploring the old town. The hosts were friendly and provided an adequate breakfast that was self service. We parked in the small, secure car park adjoining the hotel. We ate in the restaurant the food was nice but we had to wait a long time due to a large party seated before us.

The only drawback I can find is that you can't access the hotel so easy by car. But everything with this hotel is so good that that doesn't matter. Very friendly staff, very romantic and nice rooms, clean and cosy. And in walking distance from everything in the old town. The breakfast is served by very serviceminded staff, and even you don't have all those choices, what you get is guaranteed fresh and tastes delicious.

This was a very good place. Now it offers nothing more than Balkantourist style. You can find such food everywhere at much better price.

This small hotel is well placed near the centre of the old town. Our room was large enough with a good sized bathroom with a good shower. The room had a small balcony overlooking the front of the hotel and out over the city. The beds were singles, but could be pushed together easily and had comfortable mattresses and pillows. The room was clean and the towels and linen were good. The owners were friendly but didn't speak a lot of English. Breakfast was good, with a range of cold meats and cheeses as well as cereal and bread. There was also fruit squash, water as well as tea and coffee. It is probably easier to get a taxi to take you there if you are not familiar with the city, although it is quite easy to get your bearings once you are there.

Good location. Walking distance to many historical places. Room is good. View was good. Staff seems to be tired...I hope they are ok.. they have same name restaurant next to the hotel. Building is nice and old so it's worth seeing it.

Good location for old town, bit of a walk to the trap ( tourist area). No restaraunt in hotel a few close by, they do provide breakfast and have a small bar. Room ok, floor a bit bitty. Bed not too bad slept ok, walls thin and bathroom basic with shampoo, soap and towels change daily.

Well placed small hotel in the old town of Plovdiv. Nice views from a small balcony. Beds very creaky, dodgy electrical wiring, not sure about the condition of the bedding. Thankfully only stayed one night. Only gave this hotel an average rating because of its good location - in the old town and just a short walk to the modern city centre.

Most of the interesting things to see is close by this family-run hotel in the old town of Plovdiv. We even managed to get our car parked in hotel's garage. The reception area could be more alight, now you'll get somewhat depressed impression, when you arrive. The lady at the reception could hardly speak english, but we managed to understand each other when we spoke german language. We had a light spacious room. Due to the weather outside +36°C, the AC had difficulties to keep the room cool. We had ceiling windows, which left light pass in, and that may wake you up early in the morning, especially in summer. The breakfast was OK, a buffet breakfast with all the necessary.

This small family run hotel is located in the heart of the old town which dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries but the origins of Plovdiv itself are believed to date back to 6000BC and there is plenty of evidence dotted all around the city that gives testimony to its turbulent past – don’t miss the Djumaya mosque, the Church of St Constantine and Helena and the Roman amphitheatre!
As with any old town the streets were not designed for cars so getting around can be a bit difficult especially if you are not used to narrow cobbled streets, sharp turns and unusual gradients. Parking can be difficult too but don’t let this put you off.
Most of the old town has been restored and many of the timber framed and colourfully painted buildings have been converted into restaurants, hotels, art galleries and gift shops etc.
The family run Hotel Alafrangite is a modern building but the owners have clearly made an effort to ensure that it is in keeping with the old city - witness the brightly painted façade and beautiful garden.
The hotel has an intimate feel, probably due to its setting, its management and the fact that there are only 11 rooms and 2 suites.
Most of the rooms including ours are a decent size (we asked to see a selection of other rooms) and some have a seating area complete with sofa. Rooms are comfortably furnished with a good size bed (I would describe ours as firm), a chest of drawers, wardrobe, telephone, mini bar and an older style digital TV. All rooms have en-suite facilities with toiletries too. Some rooms have balconies and there is free Wi-Fi available.
There was no room safe or hair dryer however, the place felt secure and I feel confident that if I had asked reception a hair dryer would probably have been available.
Given the temperature fluctuations from winter to summer in Bulgaria it’s good to know that rooms are centrally heated/air conditioned as necessary.
There’s a restaurant on site serving local and international cuisine although we didn’t try it so can’t comment.
A continental style breakfast was served al-fresco in the leafy garden, but please remember where you are before asking for a ‘Full English’ as you won’t get one!
Unlike many of the properties in the old town Hotel Alafrangite has some private parking available to guests.
Finally, please be aware that there are many steps in and around the building and there is no lift so you may need to consider this if you have mobility issues or are travelling with young children in buggies/prams etc.

Well, to be hones I was a little disappointed with the hotel, although I was kind of expecting that I am paying for the location, as it is in the Old Town of Plovidiv and about a 5 min walk from the Antique Theater there (which was the reason why I chose it in the first place).
Don't get me wrong, it is a nice, clean and small family hotel ... but for that price you could easily do much better.
I haven't tried the restaurant, so I can't comment on it, but it seems to be quite famous among Plovdiv locals.

Small family run hotel in the old town. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Steep steps from the street to the hotel entrance. Stairs from reception to rooms (no lift). Spacious, clean room, dated decor, two single beds next to each other (double room). No room safe, no hairdryer. Glass balcony door didn't shut and the fly wire door didn't have a lock. Aircon didn't work so we needed the balcony door and a window open all night to try and get some air. Owner speaks very little English. Included breakfast was simple European style and the owner cooks fried eggs. Well located to attractions in the old town and the main pedestrian street of Plovdiv. The cobblestone streets in the old town are very rough and quite dangerous. Need to wear flat, sturdy shoes and watch where you are walking at all times to avoid twisting an ankle.
