For some reason the specialty coffee market hasn't really taken off in Tel Aviv, or Israel. But after searching I found this place and it didn't disappoint! I had a wonderful double espresso with steamed milk. Smooth and delicious. Enjoyable. No complaints here! Also, superb pastries to enjoy alongside your coffee. I liked the barista, too. Although when I asked... More

This coffee bar roasts their own. You can buy their beans to take away as well. They care about what they do and what they serve, tossing the first coffee they made as it was not up to their standard. The espresso I had a sour sweet flavor, which is not my preference, but it was still delicious. The locale... More

Great coffee brewed where it is roasted. Not much sitting place, but enough to start your day on the right foot.

We arrived at 7:30am and there was a steady flow of people for takeaway coffees. A cool little dog even arrived! Well worth a visit!

I have been to this place several times when visiting Israel. Since the founder Philipp is also from Germany I came to know him and his business quite well. This place used to be called CAFELIX, but recently they changed their name to PURPLE SQUARE (like the square in front of their shop) to distinguish themselves from the small franchise... More

The name of this place changed recently. Today they call themselves PURPLE SQUARE. And not CAFELIX anymore. But it is run by the same guys. The guys that founded the CAFELIX brand. They still roast the coffee for the CAFELIX branches. They are not a restaurant but a coffee shop. But their coffee is awesome anyway. Real good fresh roasted... More

One of the best coffees in the world. Unique blends, self imported, in the Jaffa branch the roasting is even done on wood fire... Nice staff, great atmosphere and the coffee is divine...

Description
WHY "PURPLE SQUARE"? We the locals call the little square in front of our roastery "KIKAR SGULA". "SGULA" is a synonym for the Israelites. But also means purple. Hence our name: Purple Square. ABOUT US: We never were big believers in brands & branding, marketing & trademarks and the like. We started with coffee and only dealt with coffee. And suddenly we had a small franchise with several branches and had to deal with contracts, trademarks, branding and PR. Not what we really planned to do. With a franchise comes the need for uniformity to sell the same, consistent products again and again. That can get boring. But we always liked and still like to explore new things and to experiment with coffee. So we decided to make tabula rasa. At our PURPLE SQUARE coffee roastery at SGULA 15 we will go our own way - independent from CAFELIX and its branches - free to explore new grounds and to surprise with special changing coffee varieties. We roast on a roaster with a copper drum which gives our coffee its special sweetness. You can get this coffee only on spot at PURPLE SQUARE. We still produce the coffee for CAFELIX at our new roastery at TIRTSA 17. There we roast with a wood-fired roaster. This wood-fire roasted coffee can be bought at the new roastery or at the CAFELIX branches.
