Gyeongju bread is AMAZING - I love it, and I just wish I could get hold of it now I am back here in the UK. Top notch food. If you ever go to Gyeongju, you have to at least try this.

Authentic and delicious Gyeongju Bbang! Staff was clearly not Korean (maybe Vietnamese) so the way she spoke to us came across as rude, and unfriendly, but that is probably just because she is still studying the language. A little expensive but it IS the best in Gyeongju!

At the start I thought ‘bread’ is the normal Western bread. When I was there found out that it’s a beautiful store with a big car park. The ‘bread’ is a dessert like cake, filled with red bean and taste really good.

Only one flavour is available but anyone visiting Gyeongju should give it a try. It's a bit too sweet but highly addictive. Also, the ultra-modern outlet has free drinking water and clean bathrooms.

Interesting watching people fill and cook these cakes. I would not call them bread. A really modern place. The service was professional and quick. Seating inside for you to eat them while still hot. People mentioned that these are not as sweet as others. But I found them reasonable sweet.

We purchased just 6 of these little breads filled with sweet red bean paste. They were extremely hot when delivered to us in a little bag. We ate one right away and saved others for breakfast the next day. They are great with coffee because they are somewhat sweet.

It is not so traditional, but is surely a food souvenir in gyeongju. Although each piece is less than a dollar, it taste great.

We read that these sweet red bean breads were a must try in Gyeongju, and the ones we had at Hwangnam Bread were amazing. Fresh out of the oven and incredibly tasty. Plus you could buy them individually, whereas a lot of other stores only sell packs of 10-20.

While you can purchase red bean cakes all over town, a stop at this downtown bakery to watch them be made and purchase fresh is interesting. The recipe used at this bakery is a bit less sweet than other places giving the cakes a more savoury taste.

This seemed to be the only shop serving fresh bread in small quantities, all other shops smallest boxes were 5 or 10. The bread was still warm and filled with sweet red bean, delicious!

Ok these were bean stuffed cakes. Not sure why these are considered a must eat regional delicacy. Sorry to say sometimes what the hometown people love just isn’t that special.

Very Full of sweet Red bean paste( korean red bean!!) inside thin pie crust. It is my favorite bread. It goes well with a cup of milk! This is very famous bread in Gyeongju.

CYC ( 17.12.02 ) My family visited this bakery for buying Gyeongju bread, beean jam buns. This bread was representative of Gyeongju's food. We bought this bread, and enjoyed. When we ate this bread, we felt delicious but not excellent. But we ate this bread after keeping in refrigerator, that's excellent. Recommend to eat in low temperature.

I smelt the fragrance while it's being bake and I was totally charmed. Most of the shops have an open kitchen to show that those breads are freshly made. But you won't get the hot fresh from the oven bread of course. It's more to a pancake instead of bread. Not too sweet, has red bean filling. In overall.. just okay.

I have been to Gyeonju before for business purposes and I had a box of these given to me as part of the conference I was attending. I remember them being good, but nothing that I was going to go out of my way for. Since I was now visiting town for tourism, my family members had looked this up and wanted to try a local delicacy. That's all fine and good but wow, these are expensive for what they are. I grew up eating the Korean walnut cakes (hodo-gwaja) which are kind of similar with a cakey outside and a red beam filling (but still different). I don't know if it's because I'm used to those that I don't really find the hwangnam bang that big of a deal and I much prefer the taste of the walnut cakes. I get that it is a local thing and artisan handmade bread and a nice box, but still. The walnut cakes are also cheap so I found the price of these way high. I suppose it's one of those things that you are there, so you buy it and try it. A lot of Koreans were there buying it too, so it's a thing. It is a nice shop and there are benches and free water if you want to taste your purchase right away. So I guess go for it if you like them or if this is going to be your special food that you buy in the city. But I'll happily eat my walnut cakes over this.
