My favorite hangout at Closenberg hotel is the Luna terrace. You can swim in the salt water pool which has a gorgeous infinity view of the ocean. The bar man there serves a terrific arrack sour which is my favourite besides other cocktails! I would recommend the place during the day to soak up in the sunshine or the view of the stars above in the evening is romantic. The Luna terrace is especially magical on full moon nights with the full moon in all its glory literally right in front you! The hotel has a grand history and the greatest location and I felt so lucky to be a part of this experience. I would while heartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to go on an idyllic sea side vacation with a grand view, fabulous food and friendly hospitable staff! Don't miss this experience !

We had the good fortune to experience Closenberg.... Besides being a colonial heritage hotel with a most amazing view of the sea, beach & the hills... The ambience is most hospitable &comforting! One is not surrounded by the commercial ,business atmosphere of most hotels. It is a place where one can relax & enjoy the peace &privacy The staff are most polite & attentive but not in your face or space. The Luna terrace with the swimming pool is where we spent a lot of time with our grandchildren!Truely Closenberg has added to our beautiful memories which we & our family will cherish. This is truly a home away from home!

This place might have been a must visit some time back, but it really is a dump at the moment. Empty, no atmosphere, no liquor at the bar , super expensive (500 rupees for a juice) and we got charged 18% extra on our bill (after a 10% service charge) for government taxes which is the first time in our 3 week holiday in Sri Lanka. We were the only people at this hotel and they still charged us an additional 500 rupees each to use the pool. We will definitely not recommended this hotel. For a place this quite I would expect the staff to try and keep you here instead of you wanting to down your juice and get out of here.

Had to pay to use pool which is fine. But bar is juice only. They can’t serve liquor for some reason. The towel they gave us I would call a rag to wipe the floor. The place is run down. I’m sure in its heyday it was great. But really don’t waste your time. Very disappointed.

We were really excited to visit having read the reviews, the idea behind it is brilliant and I’m sure years ago it was fabulous, however I would not be surprised if this closes soon. The place is in need of serious maintenance, the water is filthy, beds stained, floor tiles loose and where there used to be fish tanks are now smashed empty tanks. The bars weren’t open, just had black boards across instead. It’s a massive shame as the views and idea is brilliant - so if you can look past the above maybe worth a visit as does take a nice photo, depends what your priorities are.

We came here from the good reviews. When we arrived the place looked really cute and the infinity edge pool was great and offered beautiful views of the ocean. Although there were only about 7 beds to lie on and some seas at the bar, not a massive venue. I went to have a look around the corner where the pool extends and it looked awfully dirty, the water wasn’t clear like a pool should be, leaves, insects etc. I don’t know why but I was expecting table service also, but you had to go up and order on your own. My expectations were not met for this place. It has such great potential though!

Went there to drink at around 6pm. Before we could even start drinking we were attacked by all kind of insects. The management looked helpless and just shrugged off. Also, it was a dead scene. We were the only two people there. We gulped down our drinks and ran before more insects could bite us. Terrible, terrible experience. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, unless you want to drink in the swamp.

The perfect spot for sunbathing, cooling off in the salt water infinity pool or just chilling and watching the surf.

Great place to lounge and swim in privacy. The salt water pool and being surrounded by ocean are huge pluses.

Looking at the reviews and images we decided to go for drinks and lunch at Luna Terrance. With so much hopes we walked in to the premises which looked like it had seen better days. Was greeted and given direction to where the bar area was. The place was filthy as hell! The pool should seriously get a make over because it to me looked like a dirty pond which was not maintained. Moving to the bar. We ordered a chilled beer and they decided to unlock the fridge when we ordered a beer at 1pm. The glasses were put in a ice well which is only supposed to be used to store ice and not chill glasses. The glasses looked so dirty that we decided to drink off the can direct. FYI Bailey's Irish Cream is a liqure ment to me kept in a refrigerator not out in such hot climate. There was no bill presented just a total shown on a calculator. Staff at the bar were not helpful what so ever and was not hospitable at all. Everything we asked was either a NO or CAN'T To sum up it's Filthy, Old & Musty. You have a beautiful property which you should consider maintaining.
