This is an almost 200-year-old candy shop. Mostly they sell barley candy in different forms. They have hard candy, chewy candy, and gel candy, but nothing is gluten-free. Our family's favorite was individually-packaged disks that were mostly peanuts with barley candy and some sugar added--very similar to peanut brittle. This shop is in a small alley not really in a... Tawaraya's candy is made of rice & barley only so has simple and modest sweetness. The shop is on the tangled path in Kobashi-cho, 15 min walk from Kanazawa stn. But don't worry, many signs on the power pole lead you to bijou store curtain. Worth visiting.

Tawaraya, an over 180-year-old candy shop Tawaraya's candy is made of rice & barley only so has simple and modest sweetness. The shop is on the tangled path in Kobashi-cho, 15 min walk from Kanazawa stn. But don't worry, many signs on the power pole lead you to bijou store curtain. Worth visiting.
