It's a very busy traditional bakery baking old favourite breads like melon pan, adzuki pan, french bread with cheese or custard etc. All the breads very soft and still warm when I bought them. Really hard to chose which one to get, they all looked ao yummy, so I ended up buy 8 varieties of their breads and enjoy them... More

The bread taste good and soft. Long queue but worth for waiting. Famous for their red bean bread and butter French bread.

An old fashioned bakery that can bring most middle-aged Japanese back to 1960's to 70's. Anpan(bread with red-bean paste) right out of the oven is simply heavenly. It's cheap but it tastes much better than any expensive breads.

It's Showa style bakery well tacked in downtown Beppu's old part. It's not fancy French bakery, but you will feel like you're in 1960's Japanese bakery and the bread is simply the best.

We walked here on a freezing morning as we read about this bakery. It did not disappoint at all! The Anpan bread was warm and soft and the Adzuki filling just the right hint of sweetness and flavor. The Melonpan was also soft and fragrant.Great way to start the day...

The bread and the buns at this quaint little bakery opposite the hospital are white, sweet, fluffy and not fundamentally very wholesome: what the French would call "pain industriel". Don't come to Japan expecting to find European standards of bread making!

Just wanted to give life to this post, and confirm that Tomonaga Panya is still going strong. The employees are superfriendly, they have a menu/pricelist in English and their bread and buns are delicious. We are raisin bun-people and were so taken by their smooth, fluffy and medium sweet raisin buns, that we turned around after 20 meters down the... More

I have been to Tomonaga pan many times. They are quite famous for their bread and have been in Beppu for a really long time. They have only the most common types of bread found in many other places, but it is quite good. I am not a bread specialist, so I cannot say whether it is better or worse... More
