I honestly wasn't expecting much from this place. Pleasantly surprised I was! In fact, this place far exceeds my expectations. The culinary execution was very good. Presentation was excellent. Service was immaculate. Honestly, it's hard to expect more. If you have only 1 meal in Penang, I would highly recommend this place.

Had the 8 Course set menu with pairing wine. Staff were friendly but need to improve in communication skills as half the time failed to understand what the waiter is explaining on the food. Set up and ambience looks elegant but the restaurant is very bare with only 2 tables. It took 2.5 hours to complete dining.

Reached there about an hour before lunch. A friendly waitress greeted me and I proceeded to order a pancake & coffee from the breakfast menu followed by a Japanese Chicken burger for lunch. Their service was kinda slow... Food are a little overpriced but my orders were done well. Love their fries, but didn't like the sauces which tasted not... More

One of the best dining experiences we've had this year has been at the Dining Room. I highly recommend the chef's degustation menu. Whether you order 4 or 8 courses, you get all the extras such as canapes, amuse bouche, to-die-for coffee rolls (really - I wish I could take these home and eat them every day), palate cleanser and... Restaurant is set in an 8 room boutique hotel in a pre war mansion of a local tycoon of yesteryears called Macalister Mansion along Macalister Road. They could be more imaginative with the name of the restaurant instead it is plain and simple, just called The Dining Room and the decor of all white fits the clean tasteful image. We... More

I have heard many good things about Macalister Mansion, and thankfully, it lived up to its hype. Ambience - minimalist, but beautiful. The trees inside make it look like a magical winter wonderland. But it can get a little chilly inside. Service - we had a wait staff, Tan Zhi Yang - same name as my fiancé, so we could... More

I went there on a Tuesday night and as expected wasn't too busy but i prefer it that way sometimes. Great welcome, very good description of the menu and excellent service. Very cosy atmosphere and the food is to die for. We went for the chef s selection of 8 course menu ( plus 2 complimentary appetizers) and he managed... More

We ate here on a Tuesday night, there were only three couples so it lacked a little atmosphere. The interior is very plain, very white with a white paper tree dominating the room. We had the right course tasting menu with accompanying wines. All told, including water, coffees and tip it came to nearly Rm1,000. To start we received Canapés-... More

An old mansion with a refreshed breath of life. The dining ambience was pleasant and relatively quiet and perhaps, soothing too. Surely not a place for a noisy group of diners. Food was above average and nothing exceptional. Overall, if you are looking at exclusivity, this may be an option, albeit a pricey one. For me, once was enough.
