My partner and I stopped in here looking for a drink on our first night in Essaouira and enjoyed the atmosphere and company of the owners so much we decided to come back for dinner the following night. The simple menu speaks to the freshness...of the ingredients and the food did not let it down. The fish soup and duck confit pastilla were both excellent to start, and then the beef Wellington and duck breast were terrific entrees. All in all this it was a delightful experience, the food, wine, service, and atmosphere making it the perfect dinner spot for anyone visiting Essaouira.More

I had two exceptionally good dinners at Umia while I was working remotely from Essaouira. The food is delicious, plus it's the kind of place where the owners, Jamal and Bebe, will take time to talk with you and make you feel at home. One...evening I ordered dinner for two, to take to my apartment, and Jamal gave me a glass of wine and visited with me while I waited. The fish in crispy pastry was especially nice! Jamal and Bebe have a very good bar selection as well. They even had one of my very favourite rums - the 23-year old Ron Zacapa.More

Umia was a nice introduction to the city this evening for us. With its cool vibe and warm welcome it provided a wonderful meal as well as good conversation with the owner. The menu is small yet thoughtful, and we enjoyed everything (especially the roasted...pears/cheese/walnuts, mm!). Everything is made with care and presented artfully. The flavors are nicely crafted. Thanks for a nice dinner!More

This restaurant came highly recommend. It has a nice chic setting, a sense of ambiance and a warm welcome by the owners. Please be aware that one of our party is vegan and the restaurant says it caters for this diet, having booked a table...after a long sightseeing day we thought this was a perfect choice. The only option for the vegan in the group was risotto without the clams....no dessert and no non dairy milk for coffee. Not ideal! The monk fish was quite tasty as was the chocolate fondant. But please reconsider going here if you follow a strict diet, otherwise it’s ok.More

Location: excellent in medina near sea walls. Ambience: crisp and light. Food: beautifully presented sumptuous main portions (1 between 2 for main would have sufficed and we had no space for dessert). Lack of veg/vegan options (didn’t matter to us, as we ate seafood). Wine:...we didn’t indulge but presumably good as French owned. Price: mid-high European main prices. Recommended if you want to blow some cash on a high quality European style meal.More

High-quality cooking with great ingredients and good wine. Delicious. A lovely place to eat. Not cheap but well worth it. And a charming cat. Not a tagine place (although there may have been one on the menu - I can't remember). In high season booking...is recommended. Not a large place but airy, white and comfortable. we didn't go upstairs but that looks cosy. Go there.More

Our group of six went here for New Year's Eve dinner. They had a special menu that night so I don't know how it compares to the regular menu. The owner and his wife seemed French to me and were lovely. They were very attentive...and at one point introduced us to the chef. My husband couldn't believe that the owner told him to select a cheaper bottle of wine than he had picked because he thought that it was better. All the food was wonderful. Two people had the shrimp wonton for an appetizer and loved it. Three people had the Beef Wellington and unlike another diner, they all raved about it. The desserts were also excellent. There wasn't anything special for New Year's Eve at the restaurant except the menu but it was our most memorable meal in Morocco. The only minor disappointing note was that the owner brought us over a special dessert which wasn't on the menu. It was delicious, of course. We thought that it was a nice gesture and that it was on the house. My husband said that we were charged for it. Otherwise, it was an outstanding meal. I also don't understand why this restaurant isn't listed as fine dining.More

We had some lovely meals while in Essaouira for NY. This was the best. A warm welcome to an elegant, quirky room. Spotless and trendy. We started with some expertly prepared cocktails and were given good and reliable advice on some lovely local wines. We...enjoyed local scallops - as Scots we know about good sea food. These were first rate. I had duck with a celeriac puree and what were among the best mashed potatoes ANWHERE. My wife enjoyed her monkfish and my daughter her chicken. Great desserts and clearly a seriously good chef and crew. We had a lovely night.More
