Today, most people would rather sit down and have a pleasant meal while having the most intimate conversation with their friends and loved ones. And also, though there are a lot of restaurants that promise to give you the best of all worlds, they fall short in one criterion or another.
Having discovered Cookbook Kitchen in the inconspicuous streets of Mandaluyong City, it felt like a retreat. Obviously, it is a residential house converted into a small restaurant with provisions for a bistro annex for a large number of diners. Upon entering the place, one can smell the Provençal aroma coming from the kitchen reminiscent of your grandmother's good old home cooking. The interiors somewhat fall short of a rustic feel with a hodgepodge of old man figurines and other disconnecting elements.
Food on the other hand is superb. My absolute favorite and my "usual" is the Parmesan Crusted White Fish. I won't go into the details of why this is my favorite, you should check that our for yourself. Every dish is seasoned with love and is evident of trial-and-error formula to get the right amount of flavor and satiety. Cookbook Kitchen also serves wine for those who want to indulge their tastebuds. As far as I know, there is no corkage should you want to bring your own wine but please inquire as well. My information may not be accurate nor updated.
The attending waiters are warm and always smiling though lacking professionalism at times almost forgetting that they are working for a restaurant, not a fast food chain, while exchanging personal banters within earshot of the dining customers. A definite no-no for me since they kind of ruin the atmosphere the place hoped to exude. Nonetheless the place is quiet most of the time. It is very private actually that celebrities and politicians wanting to escape the public eye would often be seen dining here. Truly a hidden gourmet nook. Good place, better food.
TIP: The Cookbook Kitchen branch in Mandaluyong does not charge service fee unlike the one in Eastwood.

Love the ambiance when we got there and since we were the only one in the restaurant at that time, we had great service!
Hubby had the Parmesan Crusted Fish while I had the Adobo Pasta. Both got good rating from us and we enjoyed the relaxed, homey atmosphere and they were quite accommodating to us...not sure if it's because I was with my baby girl that evening as a "date crasher" and she was getting a bit fussy by mid-meal.
Parking is on the street so if the restaurant is full, expect parking to be a problem.

The Abobo spaghetti is to die for!!! even if this is the only dish they serve i would still be going back for more! It looks very simple. Just spaghetti pasta, tomatoes and the pork but its the combination of the three that gives me the happiness of eating it.

their mandaluyong branch was a bit challenging to find (google maps=big help). the food was delicious; very tasteful but not overpowering; adequate serving; reasonably-priced. the service was great; the crew were attentive. the place has a relaxing ambiance (away from the busy metro). this is perfect for those who wanted to enjoy good food in a very quaint place.

The place was really hard to find but fortunately, I had a friend who gave a pretty good direction.
When we got there, I was hoping to have a pretty good service since we're the only customers at the moment.
To our dismay, service was terrible!
Anyway, we ordered their bestseller, which was the Parmesan Crusted Fish.
However, this was a disappointment.
It was okay but one cannot eat too much mayo.
The Seafood Basket was also another disappointment.
The squid was overcooked. It was really hard to chew,
Surprisingly, we enjoyed the Adobo Pasta.
A true Pinoy favorite.
Taste was just right. Not salty, but flavorful.

I loved the Honey Mustard dish (don't remember if it was porkchop). The place has a great ambiance! :) Got lost quite a lot of times lols but definitely one of the places to go.
Last I ate, price range of the food was around 250 Pesos and up per main course.
It's one of the small secrets in Manila that traveller's may want to try, but its definitely not a must visit one. Still, when you're in Mandaluyong area, may want to try this (just be prepared to get lost). Google Map will give you a good idea where it is though. For locals getting tired of the usual big fast food chain, a small homey restaurant like this one located in a secluded area will surprise your palette.
Just make sure to make reservations for weekend evenings as it gets quite full.
