Been there late evening to have tea&coffee. Nice spacious place, appealing interior, quite expensive items on the menu, but worth that money. we drank coffee & tea along with small pie with strawberries. Smashing )) Definitely come back for the whole menu trying )

You would have thought that fashion models work there! Place looks fancy, the prices they charged did not match the quality of the food or the level of service - had to constantly ask for olive oil/butter and bread was charged for each piece consumed. There are better restaurants in Moscow!

Elegant and classy atmosphere, superb food, poor reception from the metre (the angry woman at the door) and inexperts waiters. When we walked in this restaurant the the metre that speak NO english tried to explain (in a stressed and unpleasant way) to us the we must leave our jacket at the wardrobe and then 4 people of the staff... Everywhere in the world, especially in big cities, there are places, where food means more then just a mix of products grilled, boiled, fried etc. There are places where you can enjoy the atmosphere, the feeling of care and enjoy the esthetic of colors and tastes that are combining the melody and the painting. This is really the place like... More

Vanil is quite an expensive restaurant, but it is definately a kind of place where you will never regret the time and money you spend. Being a symbol of a pre-crisis sumptuous Moscow, Vanil has actually showed its ability to evolve and change, staying at the same time one of Moscow's major "Grand restaurants". What makes it particularly special is... More

...for the given quality, taste and appearance. We were visiting the Temple across the street, and this place was our choice simply because it was nearest (rain started). It was not planned visit to a restaurant. This place was fancy and contemporary a couple years ago (or more). We saw many parked (improperly) SUVs and drivers/guards waiting their bosses to... More

Vanil used to be famous and can't get over it. Its the epitome of a certain kind of pre-crisis Moscow eatery where the cheapest wine on the menu used to be $100 and the food was minimalist-pretentious. Times have changed but Vanil hasn't - the food is perfectly fine, and the view of Christ the Savior is nice. Moscow is... More

I've been there two years ago and a friend of mine recently and we agree that restaurant is very posh, the interior design and atmosphere are fantastic. Very good service, a little bit expensive but worth it.

Brilliant dinner here. The tomatoes tasted like the ones you find in the Mediterranean and the huge tender octopus tentacles were better than scallops or lobster. Super service too but as is typical in Moscow, they don't get the concept of wine by the full bottle! Maybe I'm just greedy but those funny little half bottles didn't cut the mustard.....

Description
Vanil is status. Personalities of the owners, Arkady Novikov, Stepan Mikhalkov, Fedor Bondarchuk, a famous Russian director, interior from a famous architect Juri Andreev, the view from the window, altogether creates the atmosphere of the restaurant, which is the atmosphere of success. It was not without reason that right from the beginning the restaurant won the popularity of a mature successful audience. Furthermore, saying “Vanil” we mean Bohemia, secular audience, elite. The movie about a beautiful life. This is the right place to partake in a feeling of belonging to this state of mind. Everything stars from the interior. Juri Andreev in one his interviews says: "The space of the restaurant is universal. In the interior as to the form, untroubled by any pronounced history, you can put any desired content. The interior is fashionable without any intellectualizing. It's a loft studio. This is one integrated area, of inward and outward openness. It's decorations of a modern play”. “Vanil” is current. A place solely for successful people. And the loser should be left in tears: this city doesn't believe in tears, it believes in success. Restaurant “Vanil” opened July 5, 2001.

Staying in Khamovniki

Neighbourhood Profile
Khamovniki
Khamovniki could be considered a city of its own – here it’s possible to find some of Moscow’s most important cultural institutions such as the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Novodevichy Convent and Trubetskikh Estate, great sport locations such as Luzhniki stadium and aqua complex, and long and beautiful Luzhniki embankment. Pick your preferred form of transport to explore the area – bicycle or river cruise during the summer and taxi in winter as many of the great places are situated beyond a short walk.
